Question about 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

My 96 Caravan just went over the 100k mark. This morning, my ABS indicator came on. I don't detect any braking difficulty; what are possible reasons/fixes?

It's possible that you have a wheel speed sensor problem ..but otherwise your brakes will function normally but your abs will not longer work

My abs and brake light stay on while am driving

The computer has detected a condition that indicates a fault with the ABS/Traction system. Typically that's caused by a wheel sensor problem, but it can also be caused by a faulty connector, peripheral device or the computer.
The above is the shop or garage answear. How about telling us how to fix the problem , besides replacing the computer or wheel sensor? How do we check these things?
Sometimes can be as simple as a short circuit in the rear break lights or a faulty connection in the break lights.
You can start checking the break light system. Then the sensors and finally the computer.

I have a 2004 cavalier LS. While driving home from work this morning, my trac off light came on, and stayed on. Can you tell me what could possibly be the problem?

You need to take it to a repair shop that knows this system an has a diagnostic tool to scan for codes . These systems are very complex an your average person with out training should not attempt to fix it.
Traction Off The IPC illuminates the traction off indicator when the following occurs:
?€¢
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The traction control system is disabled when the following occurs:

-
For Chevrolet only, the shift lever is in FIRST (1) or SECOND (2) gear. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the powertrain control module (PCM) indicating the gear position.

-
For Pontiac and Oldsmobile only, the body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch is pressed (signal circuit is low). The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the BCM indicating the switch status.

-
The BCM detects that the park brake is engaged (signal circuit is low) and that the engine is on. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the BCM indicating the park brake status.

-
The PCM detects certain malfunctions and is unable to perform torque reduction requests from the EBCM. The EBCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating that traction control cannot be performed.

?€¢
The EBCM detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives class 2 messages from the EBCM requesting illumination of both the service vehicle soon and traction off indicators.

?€¢
The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.

With the light lit there are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the EBCM -

Check the level of your brake fluid or your brake pads may be worn down and time to have them checked out.

If only the ABS light comes on, that usually indicates there ABS computer is detecting a defective wheel speed sensor, defective power relay for the ABS module or pump, or a lower than normal fluid level in a dedicated ABS fluid reservoir.

The ABS light came on this morning, can u tell me what that is and if it is something major i need to take care of now?

ABS = Anti-lock Braking System. It means there's a malfunction of some sort. It could be the ABS pump, one of the ABS speed sensors located on the axles just behind the steering knuckles, etc. Your best bet it to head somewhere (garage, dealership, Advance Auto) that can read the code the ABS system is throwing. This way you'll know exactly what's wrong with it.
As for it being a big deal.. well the ABS system won't function when it detects an error. What this means is if you have to jam on your brakes, the tires are going to lock up and squeel to a stop. With the ABS functioning, the computer will pump/release the brakes so the wheels don't lock up, giving you more steering control in the stop

What are the symbols abs and (!) mean

this is indicative of a failure in your braking system, detected on the electronic portion. if the ABS light is on, that means the computer will have logged a code, and having the vehicle scanned is the first place to start in the diagnostic procedure. this will narrow down the area of the problem, and then the diagnostics can begin. good luck!

I have a 1998 pontiac transport and the ABS light just went on. The brakes feel perfectly fine. What is this light for?

It's possible it's the ABS brake sensor is faulty. The sensor attaches to the brake caliper. The only way to verify if the ABS is functioning is to test them in a skidding situation which is unsafe. Normal braking would not give any indication if the ABS is functioning. You shouldn't automatically assume they are functioning and should get the car checked out at a shop that features free checks. Best of luck.

check the tone rings on the axles sometimes they crack and cause the abs to in gauge. If you find one that is cracked the axle has to be replaced

2006 grand caravan abs and brake light on and off all new brakes front and back pads and rotors, lights on touch brake pedal and goes out for awhile

If the ABS lite is comming on, the module is detecting a problem in that system. There will most likely be a code in the computer. take it to your dealer and have it check. The most common problem i see in these is a failed speed sensor.
