Question about 2001 Nissan Sentra
My 2001 nissan sentra has 130 k miles, manual transmission. some time it has a rough idle along with, while i'm accelerating I experience a lack of power and while I'm on the highway driving (with or without cruise control on) the car's slows down then, like it kicks on the power, speeds back up to speed, and slows down again, then repeating. no check engine light after driving it over a 100 miles on and off the highway. I tried to view the freeze frame data, the code reader says there is no freeze frame data stored (tried two different store's readers but the same model i believe). Occasionally it goes crazy while driving in town and has the highway scenario but worse, causing the car the kick back and forth while driving, but if i let up off the gas it stops, almost like a weird miss-fire. until i try to accelerate again. but this doesn't happen every time i drive. last of all, i disconnected the oxygen sensors, and although the check engine light is on (for obvious reasons) everything is fine again, good power, no rough idle. i just bought the car and shortly after, I needed to replace the Catalytic converter, Maf sensor, and all 4 of the oxygen sensors, so I'm at a loss on what else could be wrong. thanks in advance.
Your statement that you disconnected the o2 sensor and all is fine tells you where the problem lies . It is in the o2 sensors . First up there are 2 different sensors in the system The one before the cat converter is a heated sensor (HO2S) while the one after the converter is only a O2S sensor . Two different sensors for two different applications and two different parameters that the ECM and CPU have to contend with. IF you did not use the correct tool to remove and replace the sensors then there is a distinct possibility that the wires have been damaged

remove the front 02sensor and drive the car like that, remove means complety take it apart from exaust, if problem goes away or gets so much better then your catalitic converter at the exaust is restricted and need a new one

Hi, when engine lopes while idling or idles erratically you have to troubleshoot by checking
-defective EGR valve
-air filter clogged
-fuel pump not delivering sufficient fuel to the FI
-leaking head gasket
-timing belt and/or pulleys worn
-camshaft lobes worn
The idling speed should be 700 rpm and 1000 rpm is too high which can cause the idling speed to surge.
Reduction in the idling speed under 700 rpm indicates the IAC is not functioning correctly. It could be clogged coolant hoses to the IAC.
