Question about 2005 Chevrolet Lumina SS
My car got overheating, when air condition is off
Sounds like your radiator fans are not coming on when the car gets hot. When the A/C is on the fans cycle on/off with the A/C pump so it keeps the fans on. Your engine temp sensor or fan sensor might be bad. Check the connections on the sensors and fans for water/corrosion too.

I found this forum site and from what I can discern, both fans should be running once engine temperature sensor turns them on. Can you switch wiring from 1 fan to the other? This would let you know whether you have a faulty motor or relay. Maybe you can pick up some tips too.

either the belt is loose or there is a compressor issue (either the clutch or the compressor is most likely shot)
I used these guys for my last one to have it shipped to me. If you haven't done this before it is not an easy DIY job (you need a vaccum pump, and gauges to do it correctly

The problem is in the heater box. To be more specific, the blend door. Check blend door operation and blend door motor. Located right side under dash. Remove blend door motor, with vehicle running, move switch from panel to defog and see if blend door motor moves.

It sounds like the HVAC head needs to be recalibrated, most likely when you unhooked the battteries you lost the memory to the control head, it's in a default position/state.
