The display is lighted by a tiny bulb inside the rado behind the display, u must pull the radio out and remove the top cover of the radio, there u will find a tiny bulb socket, twist it out and replace the bulb.

SOURCE: 1999 Cougar radio display works sometimes

the radio display is lighted from the back by a miniature bulb, this is the problem, the filament is almost burned out or the bulb is loose in the socket, to replace this bulb u must remove the radio (requires special radio removal tool kit, about $6.00) and then the top cover off the radio, the bulb socket twists into the back of the display, you can buy the bulb at any parts store for about $2.00

Had a new altanater put on and now the radio won't come on checked the fuse and its still good 1999 mercury cougar

If it is a factory radio, you may need to enter an anti-theft code. If it is an aftermarket radio, they tend to pinch or fry wiring in the area around the dash, and it may be unrelated to the replacement of the alternator

I have a 1999 mercury cougar. the radio display does not work but the radio works. also the cigarrette lighter does not work. is this fuse related? if so, what fuses do i replace? i do not have the cars...

this may sound stupid. but you know the little pad that has about 4 buttons on it. place a penny under it so it makes contact. Had a friend do that to mine and it works about 89% of the time. Its wierd I know!

No display dashboard or radio

on some models there is bulbs behind the dash and some have curcuits and you have to replace the whole cluster if you go to a salvage yard look at date just inside drivers door of when car was made and find one close to that date and it should work and as for the radio there is a bulb behind it check all fuses first
