Hey Dami,
When the ground wire burns you have 1. A loose ground that causes too much resistance.. or. . 2. a direct short from the positive side of the electrical system. This is a job for a qualified professional.

The plastic pulley on my power steering unit for a 97 Taurus is cracked (3 l 2v). Can the pulley be replaced or do I have to replace the entire power steering unit?

The pulley can be bought separately and replaced yes, in fact many pumps do not come with a pulley on them. Though caution must be observed when installing it because of the interference fit. The old one should be removed with a proper puller for this application if it has a metal center. otherwise that ring will be stuck on the shaft. The new pulley will have to be installed using the install tool... which in most cases will be either a 3/8" course thread bolt with a nut and a thick washer or the same in 5/16". Oil or grease is a must for the shaft as well. Using tools such as the ones in the link will make life much easier, but it can be done without them.

Hi; My name is Dean Ford. I drive a 1996 Ford Ranger. My belt broke the other day. It runs all P/S A/C . It is an all in one belt. I have been trying to find the diagram. But the one that came up is the...

Actually, you don't need a diagram to replace the broken belt.

All serpentine belt pulleys are either smooth or grooved.
All serpentine belts have a smooth or grooved side.

Just thread the new belt loosely onto the smooth belt to smooth pulleys, and grooved belt side to grooved pulleys, until the last pulley is encountered, which is the tensioner pulley.

Use a breaker bar to move the tensioner pulley to a position where the belt can be easily slipped on, and you're done.

How to replace serpentine belt, I was told to release a tension bolt? Also to draw a diagram of how the belt wraps around the pulleys? is there any tension involved or timing involved.

There is a tensioner pulley in the belt system if there is 1 continuous belt for all the components yes a serpentine belt.As far as the tensioner bolt,I don't think that was necessary. The tensioner should just pull, loosening the belt, but it takes a pretty good tug. It's been a while, but I had a 93 Buick, basically the same as Olds.As far as a diagram, they are not available as a free download.Sometimes the library has a haynes or chilton manual to check out for free. They are also at national auto parts stores.Sometimes I will go and just look at one if it is unwrapped and find what I need. You can buy one for about $20-$25.You can try calling a dealer or a couple of shops, someone usually provide you with the diagram free so that you will com back.If yours isn't broke you can map it out but usually if someone is asking for a diagram, theirs is broke.Good luck!

How do I replace a crankshaft censor? Do you have a diagram?

Crankshaft sensor would be mounted close the the harmonic balancer pulley. It senses the rotation of the engine. It would have a magnet and copper coil winding inside similar to the coil in a speaker cone. When metal passes by the device in close proximity such as a rotating pulley, it induce small amount of electric current. The harmonic balancer pulley would have notch on it so the when that notch passes through the sensor it would cause a sudden drop in in current and that is how it senses the the position of the crankshaft. So look where all the belts are at the main pulley that drives all the belt is the harmonic balancer. You would see a pair of wires connected to it. If you see a small device mounted close to it in such a way so it senses its rotation thats the crankshaft position sensor.

Need to remove steering lock from the column

If you can get someone to help, you can have them press down on the metal lock plate and you can then remove the small wire snap ring on the post.using a small pick or screwdriver. There is a too for this but I made one from a large thick flat washer with two drilled & threaded holes with 1/4 " bolts.(looks like an odd little puller) I adjust it against the plate and use the column nut to depress the unit to access the snap ring.

NOTE: Design with lower idler pulley shown (built up to 06/1999).
NOTE: The lug of the belt tensioner should not be hooked in the sheet metal cover during timing belt installation.
Position a new timing belt in place.
  • Starting from the crankshaft timing belt pulley and working counterclockwise, position the timing belt in place while keeping it under tension.

Need wireing diagram to change 72 nova over to hei distributor

Hey , just take the positive wire from the coil you are removing and feed it to the + terminal on the HEI dist. cap.the other terminal under there is for your tachometer. If you are mounting a master kill switch in the bumper for drag racing- attatch the kill wire to the tach terminal also.
Thats it you just plug the three wire pigtail from the dist. base(pickup) to the cap and you are off.
Remember firing order is 18436572 in a clockwise direction. to find #1 remove #1 plug and have someone"bump" the engine over while holding your finger over the hole-carefull. then line up the slotted mark on the crank pulley with the big notch on the timing indicator. Good luck
