Question about 2003 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Horn blows randomly when closing doors

The horn on my 03 golf tdi blows, for about a second or so, occasionally, when I close any of the doors. I tried closing each of the doors gently and aggressively; it appears to be completely random. Sometimes, I can go days without it going off; sometimes, it happens twice within the hour.

One time, upon closing the driver side door, it blew for about 15 seconds, non-stop, and the neighbors came out to see what was going on. If I recall correctly, it even went off once when I shut the hatch.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Horns have constant power all the time so when you press the horn button, all you are doing is grounding the circuit and that makes the horn blow. Usually what happens is that a spring breaks underneath where the horn button is or something allows the horn button to ground out somewhere, possibly even through the inside of the steering column.

check to see if the latch is not already half closed. If so use a round bar( Phillips screwdriver) that will fit under the latch and pull out while trying to open the door
sometimes the latch will move to half closed and will be in the wrong position to fully engage the retainer

Horn randomly honks(very annoying while your trying to sleep) HELP!

its possible that the relay is the problem as most relays have a second power feed wire,if it shorts to the horn side of the relay it can blow the horn.doesn`t happen very often but it does happen.this could explain the horn blowing without the fuse in.you can get a door key made at a lock smith to solve that problem.

My warning light saying the door is open stays on when they are all closed its a 2004 golf tdi

one of the door sensors most likely the most used driver door is bad (faulty) using a proper scanner you can access the body control module and get this information. the sensor is located on the door lock mechanism, meaning lock might have to be replaced to fix problem.

03 golf gt tdi driver door very sticky on opening from outside and no problem from inside It has failed nct and more recently when I press the key once it unlocks drivers door and when pressed again it has...

Try spraying the latches with a penetrating lube. Get it in the latch itself and rotate the can so it covers as much of the latch as possible. Then work the doors open and closed a few times. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times. Dorr latchs can use some lubriation from time to time, especially the doors not commonly used. Once they free up then go back in with a spray lubricant like WD-40 to keep them free. Hope this helps.
