Question about 2002 Honda CR-V

An Auto Body shop repaired front collision damage to my 2002 CRV, including replacing both front air bags, and the retractor in the driver's seat belt. SRS Light is still on, and I was told to go to a Dealer to have it re-set. Dealer's analyzer says Code 21-1: Left buckle and tongue set. Dealer told me I needed to replace SRS Unit, left and right tongue and buckle sets. The Repair Shop bill says they replaced the Diagnostic unit and Clock Spring, along with the bags. What should I do? This repair was not part of an insurrance company claim.

    My problem with the dealer is that they recommended items that weren't identified on the diagnostic test (e.g., replace the SRS Unit that was already replaced!). The dealer said that if the Auto Body shop repairs the problem, they will re-test it without an additional charge. This stuff is really expensive. Just the Left Buckle and Tongue set parts cost $373 if I buy them over the internet. I only want to repair the minimum essential. I believe the Code 21-1. Would the analyzer have listed other codes if other components were defective?

Yes the 21-1 code is what the code says it is, replacement of these parts would reset this code with a dealer reset. Sorry for the bad news. Good Luck

Since the auto body repair shop fixed something that wasn't on the insurance claim, you may be liable for it. However, if it needed to be repaired you may not have to. I would suggest contacting your insurance company about the extra repairs. CAR REPAIR Keep your vehicle running

I think you need to ensure that you weren't charged for anything that wasn't repaired. If everything checks out with the repair shop, then you need to explain that to the dealership. If more things need to be repaired or replaced, you might need to get more work done, but beyond that, this should be as simple as talking it out and making clarifications.

If this service was not given, then they shouldn't have charged you for it. i would discuss the issue with your insurance company if it doesn't work out. i would suggest that next time you get auto body repair done, you just have them turn the light off there. then you hopefully won't have this problem again in the future. http://www.windyscollision.com/services.html

Hi there,

The dealer analyzer has diagnosed that there was a problem on the tongue ang the buckle sets, it was diagnosed and detect that the problem was on that area so better stick on that result and go with your dealer.

the dash pad -upper section to windshield shouldnt have to be unless damaged by deployment the other 3 sections -airbag location the part in line with the ducting and the knee area usually are damaged during deployment and unless you have been trained ir have working knowledge if the air bag system would have a certified trusted auto body shop survey the damage and advise if any under dash damage is present --they can also show a dash break down diagram as well as correctly installing replacement airbag

1. It is expensive to replace air bags(which is one reason you need to insure your car) . If you want a price then contact Ford service or a body repair shop and they will give you a quote.

2. Installing and set up of new air bags is NOT a do it yourself task and needs to be carried out by a professional. Don't even consider trying to do this yourself or have some amateur try to do this for you.

Where is passenger side air bag relay 2007 MKZ


There is no relay for the passenger side air bag . What seams to be the trouble ? There is possibly a code set in the air bag control module .
Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) The air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) is designed to provide increased collision protection for front seat and second row outboard occupants, in addition to that provided by the 3-point safety belt system. Safety belt use is necessary to obtain the best occupant protection and to receive the full advantage of the SRS.
This vehicle line contains dual stage deployment (advanced restraint system) driver and front passenger air bag modules. These vehicles are also equipped with driver and front passenger safety belt retractor pretensioners. These vehicles can also be equipped with optional side air curtains that deploy from the A-pillar to the C-pillar upon a side impact. Vehicles with optional side air curtains are also equipped with seat side air bag modules in the front seats.
Side air curtains deploy from the headliner, protecting the first and second row outboard occupants during a side impact. Seat side air bag modules deploy from the outboard front seat backrest upon a side impact. In addition, a front impact severity sensor is mounted to the lower radiator support, a seat position sensor is mounted to the driver seat and a usage detection switch is added to the front driver and passenger outboard buckles. If equipped with optional side air curtain modules and seat side air bag modules, there are an additional 4 side impact sensors.
Vehicles are also equipped with an occupant classification sensor (OCS) system as part of the front passenger seat. The OCS system includes 2 OCS rails and an OCS module.
Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Indicator
The passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) indicator is a visual indicator used to inform the front seat occupants of the passenger air bag deactivation state. The PAD indicator is a stand-alone lamp installed into the vehicle instrument panel in a position visible to each front seat occupant.
The restraints control module (RCM) controls the state of the PAD indicator through a direct hardwire connection, based on information provided by the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system. The PAD indicator is lit to indicate the passenger air bag module is disabled. An exemption to this is when the front passenger seat is determined to be empty and passenger safety belt buckle unbuckled, and therefore indication of a deactivated passenger air bag module is not necessary. In all other cases, the PAD indicator is unlit when the passenger air bag module is enabled.
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the PAD indicator prove-out period is initiated by the RCM. The RCM briefly activates the PAD indicator to prove-out the indicator function and verify to the front occupants correct functional operation of the PAD indicator.
The PAD indicator will be lit/unlit within 1.0 to 1.5 seconds of a change of state from the OCS system.
When an OCS system fault is present, the RCM defaults the passenger air bag module to the last valid state received from the OCS system until the ignition switch is turned OFF. If the OCS system fault is still present when the ignition switch is turned ON, the RCM defaults the passenger air bag module to enabled regardless of the size of occupant in the front passenger seat. The PAD indicator will be unlit. For information on the OCS system, refer to Occupant Classification Sensor System in this section.
The following table indicates the passenger air bag status and the PAD indicator status based the size of the front outboard passenger occupant.

How to Reset airbag light


  • Most likely you replaced the clock spring and air bag module right? Well when the srs deploys you also have seatbelt pre-tensioners that are part of the whole retractor assembly and cannot be repaired. Ie either side retractors are not working right , then you need to replace according to chrysler corp.

Nothing will happen including air bag operation in the future. Air bag system is disabled by the computer any time the light is on. Probably have damaged sensor wires or sensor in the front due to previous front end damage. If a body shop repaired your car, take it back and demand they fix your car properly as this is part of the job.
NOTE: Before installing the air bags be sure to disconnect the battery "and" remove the air bag fuse and wait at least 3 minutes before working with the system. Safety first !!!12_24_2012_6_19_01_pm.png

Air bag code 33 for a 2005 lincoln town car


2005 Towncar SRS Code 33 (3 flash + 3 flash, repeat this set for twice. then Beep 5 times pause x 5 = 25 beeps every 30min).

This means you have problem with left (Driver) side pretentioner (Seat belt retract system).
It doesn't mean physical belt or retract mechanism.It is just bomb wiring which is part of airbag system.
When airbag deploy, passenger must stay tight in seat otherwise body lean to front then slam back to seat by airbag.
if belt is loose or delay to lock, passenger's body rocks back and forth.So, system use small bomb (Fire power) to lock and retract seat belt when airbag deploy.There is small bomb and igniter in part of Seat belt retractor.
Code 33 is warning for this part on 2005 Towncar.(older model is different meaning in Ford/Lincoln, it's possibly passenger side airbag system for earlier model)
Before you work for any part of Airbag system and touch any "Yellow connector", * *Disconnect battery (negative side is good enough) and wait at least 5 min to clear all power in system**.(Airbag store back up power for few minutes to be able to deploy even in case if power disconnected)
by the way, you should move your driver seat most forwarded position before you disconnect battery to make it easy to work with seat belt.
locate driver side seat belt retractor (in center pillar between front and rear door, you may have to fight with weather strip)

Locate Yellow connector on bottom of Seat belt retractor (it's called "Pretensioner")it is located on very bottom of rear side of retractor.
only one yellow connector. (make sure your battery is disconnected)
Check its physical connection or looseness.if connection looks fine, you may have to replace whole seat belt ($180-$200 in Lincoln dealer)
You can check if pretensionor is good or bad by regular tester, but unless you know how, I won't tell (because I don't wan't you to blow out pretentionor).

Speedometer Quit working on 2004 f250 after the front end was repaired for collision damage


It is for sure that the front collision has done the damage to all the sections mentioned and it was important that before you took delivery of the car a proper trial test run was important. It will be best to get this back and have it checked to rectify the above faults.possible cable , sensor, gear could be damged and might need replacement.

Seal belts on both front seats (driver side and passenger side) will not pull out of the retractor. Don't want a fine for not wearing belt but it won't work. No one seems to know how to fix it. ...


No one can fix it!

Don't you find that odd?

You remove the plastic seat belt retractor covers,
on the floor by the "B" Piller

If you need to replace them, the retractors I mean, there
is a special GM Torx Driver Bit for seat belts

I would play around with them to see what the issues are

IF THEY HAVE AN AIR BAG INVOLVED e.g. SRS
System integrated into the seat belts,disconnect the battery
(before) you even think of going near the covers
