Question about 2000 Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

Change out your fluid and filters!!

This is exactly what was wrong with mine, i have toyed with this cars tranny for over a year and found out that to keep your warranty you have to flush the transmition at i think it was 50000 but after that it starts to act up! Hyundai dealers did all of my work at first, then i started to do the work myself. i changed the fluids and filters and now as long as i let the car warm up to opperating temps before i put in to gear it works great! I THINK HYUNDAI KNEW THAT THERE TRANSMITIONS WERE ****...thats why they tell you to kick bricks when you dont follow there protocall!! That and ALL the TRANSMITION SHOPS are in on the joke as well, charging you to replace the trans when all it needs is a super clean out!!

Go to and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle.

First of all that metal sand is not a good thing. Something has definitely gone wrong. If your just looking to get the last few miles out of the truck and not spend any money on the tranny I would do exactly what your planning. Change with fluid, replace the filter and may go to checkers or whatever to see what they have as far as anti tranny slip stuff. But I'm afraid the problem is only going to get worse with time since you have metal shaving down in there.

Change the Transmission fluid & Filter. Without knowing the exact behavior of the transmission, somtimes if the fluid is low or dirty or the filter is bad it can cause problems that mimic a faulty tranny.

93 v8 1500 revs very high and loud through 1-2 then shifts hard.

If that is the original transmission, It could be getting worn out. I would first try to change the fluid and filter before trying to pin sown exactly what is wrong. If that doesnt do it, then you have slipping clutches in your tranny. If you change it out, make sure you get a new torque convertor also. It is imperative you do not use the old one

You are going to need a Rebuild on this Tranny. Unless you know how to Rebuild a Tranny, I would have it done at a Tranny Shop. If you get the Clutches in the Wrong order During Rebuild it could Crack the Housing on the Tranny and cause a Bigger Problem. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
