Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
I have the same problem in a 99 jetta. I do not have any reverse first or second gears. Just happened this weekened. Was able to get it home starting in third. Please let me know what you find out.
The shift lever relay is almost certainly out. I just had this happen to me a few weeks ago...be careful driving around in third, you don't want your clutch out too. You can open the hood to manually (by hand) get into reverse by lifting up on the shift lever arm and rotating towards you. I imagine you might be able to find the others, but I had a hard time doing so. At any rate the part should be about 38.00 and $165.00 to have put in at the dealership. I paid like 212.00$...lord knows why this pretty important piece was made of plastic.
Again, watch the clutch.
