If the air conditioner has stopped, it can be three things. The clutch, the relay, or the motor. Look around in relay centers to see where the relay and fuse are for the conditioner. You can check with a multi-meter, or ohmmeter to determine if relay and fuse are good. You can also use the same tester to determine if there is power in the wiring going to the air conditioner motor.

Car makes very loud screeching noise.

It could be that the air conditioning compressor clutch is not working properly. The clutch should allow the pully to freewheel when the air conditioner is not used.
You can have your battery tested at.an auto parts store, and you can test the alternator by removing a battery cable while the engine is running. The alternator is what powers all the electrical systems while the engine is running. If the engine stops running when the cable is removed, this means that the engine was running from the battery and not the alternator.
Your alternator or your regulator is bad.
Regulators are an internal part of alternators, unless its a pre 70's.car where they were a separate external unit.
Hope this is helpful.

My 1996 Mercedes runs very well. I got it used and ever since I have always had issues with the Air conditioning. The car runs well and can travel any distance without the air conditioning on. If you turn...

Its you're ac compressor and its getting hot and sending an over load to the electrical system and shutting the car down because it has safety relays to keep from burning you're coils up you can try replacing ac relay but it will most likely just fix it temperarly where if you replace the ac relay & the commpresor you will not have any more problems and you should take to a dealer and have electrical system checked to make sure you haven't burned out Any other relays good luck

Why my car boggs when the AC is turned on

many people experience a shaking or vibration when the Air Conditioning is on when they have an issue with the AC Compressor. It's also possible there could be a clogged up vent/duct. Bear in mind, air conditioning systems usually weigh over 100lbs in a car and do put a considerable amount of extra strain on the engine to run them, so most every car will be 'bogged down' a bit, but it shouldn't be too significant. So if the problem is mostly noticeable when you are stopped at a red light, or idling in some way - I wouldn't be too concerned.

no it could be air condition clutch that engage/disengage the air condition compressor and disengage it through the pulley or could be the pulley bearings one of them . also check the solenoid that controls that clutch .
have a good luck sir .

have you had the system check for proper pressures and if it has air in the system or a leak causing low pressure in the system.this needs to be checked out by a shop that does a/c work.

Air conditioning on '97 Dodge Caravan 3.0L not working. No power to compressor.

Wait until you get it full, then see what it does.Could just be freon running through evaporator, and air. Once full & run a while, it may stop, if not, your AC will probably quit cooling again, then you'll know.

Air Conditioning

Sounds like the hig head-pressure cut=out is kicking in and shutting down the compressor. This is probably caused by not enough air being moved across the condensor coil (in front of the radiator). Check and make sure all the engine cooling fan components are in place and functional (fan clutch, shrouding, belts tight) and also check the coil for obstructions (Bug accumulation, road debris, litter). Clean the coil and radiator as much as possible at a self-service car wash, see if that doesn't help.

This can also be caused by an overcharged system (too much Freon). Sometimes when these symptoms first appear, the knee-**** response is to add another can of Freon, only to make things worse. If this is the case, I would recommend a system evacuation and service, replacing the dryer/receiver and pulling a 28mm/hg vacuum on the system, and then refilling with the proper amount of Freon, and cleaning the evaporator coils as well. This can only legally be one by an HVAC Certified technician, to insure excess Freon is not released into the atmosphere.

Hope this helps you figure it out, and good luck!
