I have a MK IV ford fiesta and require the gearbox oil capacity. The vehicle is a 1998 1.8D, endure engine

good old fiesta with a endure engine ,run for ever this motor maybe not the fastest thing on 4 wheels but what a work tool ,anyway gearbox oil is EP 90 and if its completely empty then i would expect to top up to the filler plug with around 3 pints 1.9 litres acording to my alldata book .but then i always pump a grease gun full of LM grease into a box as well then top up with the EP oil as this grease settles to the bottom of the box and seals up any leaks in the casing .Old fleet fitters trick from the days when mechanics were mechanics and not unit changers

The oil warning light comes on intermitantly while driving, sometimes, out of the blue. The oil level is fine and it comes and goes, I have changed the sending unit and that is not the problem.

The oil pump pickup can be stopped up. Oil will cook and look like burnt candy. This was the problem on my 91 jetta and could be your problem. I also have a 90 Fox but never had a problem with it.

Where is the back-up light switch located? I have no back-no lights.

prev.gif next.gif Back-up Light Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Cabriolet On the Cabriolet, the back-up light switch is mounted in one of three positions: screwed into the front face of the transaxle beside the oil filler plug, screwed into the top of the transaxle case to the left of the shift linkage, or mounted as a microswitch on top of the transaxle with a lever that is activated by the external shift linkage. Fox The Fox back-up light switch is screwed into the rear of the transaxle housing. Simply unscrew it from the housing to remove or replace. 1990 — 92 Golf and Jetta The back-up light switch includes the fifth gear switch used by the up-shift light. I have to put oil in the gearbox of Vw Polo diesel 1,9 (1998). Where is the right hole ?

I believe it is pretty much the same like on my Jetta 84 1.6 carb. However it is a left hole. :) Turn the front wheels all the way left. Look for a square like the one for changing motor oil, at the head of the gearbox. Oil should reach the lower edge of the opening when car is horizontal, according to my manual.

I need to know how to put gear oil in a 95 jetta.if you have pictures how to do that.

Jack up the car on the driver side. Then you need to take off the Driver side Tire. You will see a 17 hex Allen socket on the transmission; this is where the gear oil goes. On the bottom of the transmission is another 17 hex socket: this is how you drain the transmission fluid. The car takes (75w90 GL-4). I believe the capacity is about 2.0 quarts. But put in about 1.5 quarts first, to see how the car feels, and then add more later.
