SOURCE: eps light is on and steering is stiff

EPS is activated only when the driver steers the steering wheel, thus reducing energy loss compared with the hydraulics. Its modular design allows for easy assembly. EPS consists of motor, electronic control unit (ECU), torque sensor and steering gear.
bar.gif Our unique control algorithm allows for improved handling. bar.gif Compact, light weight. bar.gif Capable of controlling motors from 25 to 80A. bar.gif Standardized column integrated or stand alone ECU.Basically its a electrically power steering to assist the driver to turn the steering wheel. Check the electronic control unit(ECU) for any short/burnout and the wiring should be pliable. If not then proper amount of current is not reaching the motor.
The light can light up if there a failure of the motor or any sensor is activated when this circuit has any problem.
Get i checked & repaired from their authorized Dealer and also get a service warranty for the part replaced as per norms out there.
However repair immediately otherwse you might find the steering wheel turning in haphazard manner or it could get locked while driving! .........................................sodeep

SOURCE: the eps light comes on in my dashboard and the

First you have to check power steering fluid level, and if it's ok then you have to check power steering pump. If you have a EPS light on your dash, then you have to plug a ODBII diagnostic tool to read code and then interpret what the problem is.

Power steering stiff and fluid not leaking

Stiff power steering can be the result of low or contaminated power-steering fluid (it may need to be changed or flushed). A loose serpentine belt, a worn out power-steering pump, tie-rod/s or ball-joint/s may be seized, or possibly the rack and pinion may have an internal failure. I listed it in the order that I would check all related items. If you have any questions, findings, or details, please write back. Good luck.

I moved the truck forward the steering is not working and my power brakes are very stiff as well as the steering is the same very stiff

on some models the power steering pump runs both the brakes and the steering..look for a broken/missing belt and low/leaking fluid in the power steering pump..replace whats bad..

Steering is stiff & difficult during turns.have used power steering fluid.2001 suzuki vitara xl7 v6 4dr

Its either the power steering pump, or the rack & pinion, (steering gear). It is only going to get worse, and maybe even dangerous, as the steering will jam and not turn. Have it inspected by someone you trust....soon! If it is the rack & pinion it may cost around $500 to have it replaced. Make sure that price includes the required front-end alignment. It will drive like new afterwards!!

I changed my 2003 Lincoln Navigator air suspension with Strutmaster, LOVE IT, drives like new, however, I'm experiencing a problem with my power steering, its stiff and hard to steer. Is there something...

I would guess your steering rack is worn out,
mainly because you don't flush the fluid every
3 years or not more than 30,000 miles, as you
should also do with the transmission, on ALL
your vehicles

Power steering keeps going stiff all the time

There are 2 things that cause power steering to go stiff. The power steering pump itself either from failure or "lack of fluid" and the rack and pinion assy under the car.
Most of the time the failure is the power steering pump itself. The teflon rollers fail inside the pump and it either stops providing an output pressure or it seizes up. You can loosen the power steering pump belt then try to rotate the pump by hand. It should move by hand. If it feels like it is intermittently locking up as you rotate, it the teflon rollers have failed and the pump will need to be replaced.
