Question about 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe
IM LOOKING IN GETTING A NEW JASPER ENGINE INSTALLED IN MY TAHOE AND WANT TO KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES LABOR TIME TO PUT IN A NEW MOTOR?
It depends on ur prep,manpower and amount of equipment u have -can take 8 hrs to days -if your having it done at a dealer they have a break down for labor --if in a shop and their are no problems busted/rusted parts usually 2 days

I have run into an issue with these engines miss-fireing on #3 before.
You may want to have you tech check the miss-fire count for #3 & #7 on his/her scanner, THe distributor cap on these engines is made so the spark for #3 crosses over the path of #7 & they sometimes mix & become one. What happens then is they may be fooled by a spark coming through the wire if on a test lead but won't send the spark to the cylinder. The spark always goes to the easieat place so when cyl.#3 is ready to fire it is easier for the spark to go to #7 & vice-versa, So you tech will see a constant miss-fire on #3 & an intermitant missfire on #7. they can ceck the cap by pulling #3 plug wire off the distributor cap while the truck is running & there will be no spark, if he puts #3 back on & pulls #7 off there will be no spark there. the computor will only set a #3 miss-fire code because that is the cylinder that miss-fires the most.
If they find that is O/K you will want to have them do a compression test. If they find the compression is conciderably lower on cylinder #3 than the rest the camshaft theory is plausable.
The next step will cost you some money but it will tell you if you have an injector issue. You will have to pay you tech about 3.0 hrs to do this & you can just have them replace the #3 injector & hope it works. But they are around $200.00 rebulit so thats alot of money to throw at a hope. You'll need to get them to swap the #3 injector with the injector from one of the other cylinders then run the engine. if the miss-fire moves to the other cylinder you know you have an injector issue.

I would try to test the ground the motor first, also you can duplicate the ground with no consequence. If the motor is real dirty/ dusty, you may be able to clean it and ck the brushes in it while you are there.

the best thing that u can do is go to the store and buy the repair manual for your car they usually run between $15 and $20 and they will have step by step instructions and pics....not only is it good for this but pretty much anything else u want to know about ur car..hope this helped

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Once the panel is off, you will see two or three bolts securing the mirror assembly onto the door

try unplugging the mass air flow sensor and driving it,it will throw a code for that when unplugged but it could have an "in range" failure which will not set a code while plugged in,hope this helps,also..has it been tuned up? what type of plugs were installed? was a complete tune up done? u could also try removing an O2 sensor and see if your problem gets any better..it could be a plugged catalytic converter,good luck
