Question about 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

1 Answer

1998 plymouth voyager , transmission will not shift past second gear,

I replaced the trans in my wife's 98 Plymouth grand voyager with the trans out of my 99 caravan. ran fine for a few weeks then started acting up, first tach and speedo erratic, full sweeps. fault codes 1727,1735 and 1765, {snap on scanner},had to switch out neutral switch connector, 98 had round pins and 99 has spade terminals. when its cold, it works properly, warm it will not shift. 99 trans never had a problem in caravan, in the Plymouth....... PROBLEMS!!! CCan not find the flow charts in alldata, {autozone diy}. any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: 98 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER WONT START - BLOWS ENG FUSE - HELP

You have a shorted engine harness, this is not common but it does happen, heat and engine movement cause damage to the harness, this is most common on hi miler cars and vans, the only way to fix it is to start by looking anywhere the harness rubs, that is where the damage occurs.

SOURCE: won't shift into gear plymouth voyager

Hi the Transmission control module is having communication issues with the sitting solenoids that actually preform the shifting once you initiate it by using the in car stick. these solenoids are inside of the transmission pan and you will need to replace them.

Please rate and god bless:)

Hi:
This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.

With that model of Plymouth it is likely auto transmission needs a service. I am assuming you have auto transmission. Need to press the brake pedal before you can shift to D. But if the lever is not moving at all then solenoids could have gone. Go to a transmission specialist for Plymouth voyager.

the check engine light should be on with a code P0700 present. This means that the transmission control module has codes in it. You will need a high end scan tool (not an OBDII code reader) to get those codes. Once you know what those codes are post them here and I'll be happy to assist you further.

My Plymouth grand voyager 2000 does not shift, it is stuck on the first gear, do you think it could be the transmission control module?

more like a speed output sensor :) start there, There are 2 side by side, one is an input, one is an output, Replace them both the cost around 45.00 for the pair, and fairly easy to do, located on front of trans case

1998 Plymouth Voyager does not shift to 3rd gear when driving,3.3

It's in limp home mode. You'll have to check wire connections and electronic controls. If it has a vacuum modulator you can remove it and look for trans fluid on the vacuum hose side (meaning ruptured diaphram). Double check the parts you replaced as well, especially if they were used parts. My dad went through three speed sensors in one year on his Caravan. You should drop the pan after checking other components. It could be a bad relay, shorted module or wire. The three speed transmissions are much more reliable than the four speed overdrive transmissions but with age and miles things can go wrong and parts will wear out.
