Question about 2006 Chevrolet Malibu LT

2006 chevy malibu wont start unless i hit the gas pedal

I'm in the process of trying to clean the throttle body with brake cleaner and a rag. I know it's not the fuel pump because the car runs fine when i tap the gas to start it. I'm not sure what this problem could be and noone else has apparently found a solution either!

I took the liberty of breaking down all the possible solutions to problem. #1 it's not the spark plugs, injectors, fuel pump or fuel filter. After checking everything plausable, I've come to the conclusion that it is either the carbon build up, or the throttle body position sensor is sticking and needs to be replaced. After tapping on the throttle body position sensor and cleaning the front end opening of the throttle body with a rag and brake cleaner, the car started right up on the first try.

More than likely possibility: The gas pedal makes an "unsticking sound" when you tap the pedal while driving. If you hear this same noise while your driving and have to tap the gas in order to start your chevy malibu then you and I have the same problem! This issue is very common with every single chevy malibu

If the fuel pump is working properly, you shouldn't need to push down the gas pedal in order for it to start. It could easily be a fuel pump issue. When you turn the key to start it do you wait a few seconds to allow the fuel pump to engage? Another possibility is your fuel injectors may need a good cleaning.

It will be a good idea to clean injector. It's a good thinking to clean throttle body......never forget for good combustion you need AIR,good FUEL,and good spark
when you need to crack up the throttle plate to start means throttle body dirty and IAC valve dirty or not working properly
hope it helps

How to clean throttle body on 07 envoy?

To clean the throttle body you will need a tooth brush and some throttle body cleaner spray.Remove intake hose on throttle body, you may have to also remove the air cleaner but most times you can just move it aside.
This being drive by wire you will not be able to open the throttle by stepping on the gas pedal. you will need to use your finger to push it open,Push throttle plate open and spray plate and body, then use toth brush to clean plate and body. spray to clean out and use brush to loosen carbon. place a rag under the throttle to caught cleaner run out, the rest will burn in engine.
After you clean start truck, if truck is hard to start then step on pedal to start, this will clear out the cleaner. try not to over do it on the spraying. When cleaning you want to clean area that plate sits against. For example the closed plate, the area around the plate is the area that air is sucked through and with carbon build up there it restricts air flow at idle . thats the area to clean, the plate edge and body. hope this is helpful good day

2006 chevy malibu code po 2176

Your throttle position is different from the accelerator position, the computer reads both of these and they need to be within certain limits. The first thing I would do is turn key off unplug throttlr body and look over your plug terminals really well especially look and see if the gap in the female terminals all look the same, you want them fairly tight so that when the spade terminals are inserted into the female ones in plug you want them a tight connection. next I would remove snorkel hose from throttle body and clean you throttle body with rag w/carb orr brake clean, hold throttle blade open and wipe all the soot out and try will have to have a scanner to clear code.

Gas pedal sticks/hard to push when first starting to drive. after that it is normal.

You need to clean the throttle body plate and bore area. You can get throttle body cleaner at your local parts stores.Just remove the air cleaner and the boot that goes to the throttle body and hold the throttle open.Take a rag and soak it with the cleaner and start cleaning the bore and the throttle plate til the tarish stuff is gone. You should be able to feel the plate not stick by moving it by hand to the open and close position. You can also spray it down with the cleaner before you wipe it with the cloth. You can use brake cleaner but then it takes longer to clean and you have to rub harder.Throttle body cleaner works the best.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Gas pedal unresponsive

Try this: Go to your local parts store and purchase a can of (throttle body cleaner) you will take your air filter out and remove the big tubing that is connected to your throttle body and filter housing. Spray the cleaner inside the throttle body, open the (butterfly) and spray around the pivot the butterfly opens and close on. What happens is you get carbon build up in these areas and it causes the gas pedal to feel like it's stuck and have to apply more pressure to the pedal. You will see alot of black carbon run out of the throttle body. Take a clean rag and wipe down the area of the throotle body. Repeat the cleaning 1-2 times. put your air inlet tubing back on and re-install your filter. It may seem hard to start at first but it's drying out the cleaner that was sprayed inside the body. Try this and see if this works. I've done this on many vehicles that shops want to charge $300 to do and all you need is $5 cleaner. It's very easy to do and takes 20 min.

Why does my gas pedal stick while driving. 1995 isuzu rodeo. it happen when i try to accelerate. its worse when its cold.

The throttle-body (or throttle plate inside the throttle-body) is probably gunked-up with carbon deposits and needs a good cleaning.

Take the air snorkel off of the throttle body and look inside while holding the throttle plate open. If you have thick black deposits on the back side of the throttle plate, you can clean it by spraying some throttle body cleaner (Available at any parts store) onto a rag and using an old tooth brush to push the rag, clean all the black gunk out of the area.

I recommend an old tooth brush because using something hard like a screwdriver can scratch the inside of the aluminum throttle body and actually make the throttle stick worse. I don't recommend spraying the throttle body cleaner directly into the throttle body because it can end up in the air plenum where it may loosen some deposits that can cause severe engine damage.

Sticky gas pedal

it is a dirty throttle plate. $280 is an absolute ripoff for a cleaning, it is about 10-15 minutes of work. They are probably quoting replacing the throttle body which about a $150 part.

Got to Autozone and get "CRC Throttle Body Cleaner". Remove aire inlet hose at throttle body with a screwdriver. Spray a *small* bit onto throttle plate, use clean rag or qtips to remove gum/varnish. Spray pivots and also clean around perimeter of the plate. Take it to an independent mechanic if you are unsure of the procedure.
