Sorry but it looks like you will be in that tank again. pull the pump out and plug it into the car wiring outside the tank and move the float up and wait 60 seconds. if it doesn't move the gauge, replace the sender (with a new one or maybe with the old one, if you still have it) and test it before you install it

How to check the fuel pump in a 1996 cavalier

you need a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure, it needs to be 35lbs pressure. if you don`t hear the pump working try hitting the fuel tank while someone is trying to start it. if it starts the pump is no good, however this doesn`t necessarily work all the time. these are the easiest ways. next you will have to use a volt meter and find the power wire and ground wire for the fuel pump at the tank.

I just got a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4, 4.0, std tran. The oil gauge doesn't work (engine runs fine) Previous owner said something about the ground for the instrument cluster (?) Also the gas gauge is off...

You should invest the $25 in a repair manual from the auto parts store. It has wiring schematics in the back of the book. Get yourself a decent digital volt ohm meter and start tracing the wires for your oil gauge, or you could try changing out the oil sending unit on the motor. It may be bad and they're not that expensive. As for the gas gauge, it sounds like you have a sticking float in the tank. As far as I know they do not sell the float and the fuel pump separate from each other. I would just watch the miles per tank of gas on the trip meter, unless you absolutely have to have a gas gauge then it's time to change the whole pump assembly.

I changed fuel pump, now my gas gauge stays on empty

As the fuel pump and gauge sender unit are in close proximity to each other I would be checking a wire connection is not loose or an earth wire left off at the tank

I have a 1993 dakota 3.9 v6 replaced fuel pump, had wiring checked, and replaced cluster but fuel gauge still doesn't work any help would be greatful

Was the sending unit replaced

You say you had something done or checked

We have over 300 new people a day, come to this
site alone, that have not found a repair shop or dealer
that can resolve anything, at all

Why is that,I ask?

I have 1992 dakota factory manuals from mine old one

If you get specific about serious wire chasing I will
look things up for you.

Fuel gauge doesn't work. checked fuses, didn't help

The issue may be the the in tank fuel gauge float. Over time these can corrode and/or get gummed up which would cause it to get stuck. Another issue maybe the wires running from the in-tank pump to the gauge cluster, if one of the wires has become loose or broken, this would cause the issue as well.

My fuel gage is reading full at all times and the radio will not come on is this a fuse issue or two different issues?

You definitely have two different issues as the fuel gauge and radio are on different circuits. The radio could be a blown fuse, which would require finding a short circuit. The fuel gauge could be as simple as a bad connection at the sending unit or a lost ground on the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel gauge at the tank and with a twelve volt test light well grounded probe the harness terminals with the key on (engine off). The fuel gauge should move when the sending unit wire is probed, and the test light should light dimly. Other terminals are a ground for the sending unit, a ground for the fuel pump, and power for the fuel pump. If the gauge moves when the sending unit wire is probed the problem is either the sending unit or a bad harness connection. If the gauge doesn't move during the probe there is a wiring problem (open circuit) or a bad dash gauge. Hope this helps.

I have a 98 chevy s10 blazer 2wd 4 door nad my fuel gauge dont work its stuck on empty i changed the fuel pump several time thinkn it would fix the problem but i didnt. i need a picture or sumthing to show...

You could try changeing the fuel pump relay The fuel gauge signal come from the pump and goes through the relay to the gauge and on your vehicle the pump will still work even if the relay is bad it has a back up power system through the oil pressure sending unit . The relay is located inside of the glove box behind a panal its the one on the far left. I also have wiring schematic of the system but would need to fax it . If you want it get back to me with a fax #

Silverado 2000 5.3 4x4 gas gauge not working properly. Listen I have installed (2) new fuel pumps and fuel level sensor. I installed a insturment cluster. I ran a new ground wire from fuel pump to...

there are 4 wires at the sender - and 3 wires for the vapour sensor-the two heavier wires are for the pump and the lighter wires are for the guage-the lighter purple wire should have 5 volts on it-if not you may have a wire or computer problem-th guage is an input to the pcm(computor) under the hood and then is transmitted via comm. line to the cluster-if the rest of the guages work in the cluster you need to look at the pcm or wiring to the tank
