More than likely, once you get boot open with key strip out trim to expose lock mechanism and spray a little wd 40 into plunger area and try to work back and forward with your fingers then try from switch you might be lucky and get away with out getting a new locking mechanism

Trunk release for 98 pont gp no power, can't find the fuse and the switch itself was checked and was good

Check trunk release solenoid for power and ground when applied from switch. If power and ground ok, then release solenoid is the problem in the trunk lock mechanism. If misssing power or ground, then electrical diagnostics will be required

Trunk Lid Release Switch on 2009 cts not working

Does it make any noise when you attempt to unlock it? if so it could just need you to realign the latch. but if you hear no sound at all then its electrical and I would check the fuse next. If fuse is good put a multimeter on the solenoid then to the ground and try to unlock it to make sure you are getting power to the solenoid. If you are getting power its the solenoid that need replacement. WebRepcurrentVotenoRatingnoWeight

Trunk release button on the dash will not release trunk. Key remote does. Why

The trunk is opened by an electric solenoid. There should be fuse in the fuse panel for it. Check to see if the fuse has blown.

Trunk release switch does not work

1) check trunk fuse
2) check if there is voltage at the trunk latch and that you can hear the solenoid at the latch activate.
3) if voltage present and solenoid does activate. Try lubing the latch. May be binding.
4) voltage present, solenoid activates, latch lubed. trunck still does'nt open. replace solenoid

Trunk release does not work The release does not work from inside the car or the remote release.

I had the same problem. I checked the fuse (good) and the electric latch. They both turned out good. I checked continuity on the wiring. This also showed good,......... initially!
I eventually found that I had continuity in the wiring when the trunk lid was in a certain position but not when it was closed.
I eventually found that there was a broken wire in the area where trunk hinges. Spliced in a 6 ft. section of wire to cover both side of the hinge area. Problem was solved.
Hope this helps...... or at least gives you food for thought.

FUSES ARE GOOD, whichfuse works on windows door locks & sunroof

go to the trunk latch release solenoid and have someone push the release while you check to see if the solenoid gets 12 volts at its connector in the trunk, make sure the parking brake is on while you do this as it will not work unless parking brake is applied (manual trans only), let me know what you find.

Trunk release

I had the same problem with my 96 jetta trek edition, solenoid was engaging but the trunk was jammed, went in via back seat, fold down the seat and crawled into the trunk unscrewed the latch, cleaned and greased the latch mechanism and hinges, then screwed latch back, no problem since. The fusebox is underneath the dashboard, if the fuse is good, test the solenoid to see if it is working correctly, be careful have an expert in electricity do the testing for you, if solenoid is good, might be your switch in your console, if the switch is good, might be mechanical, these are basic troubleshooting procedures.
