Gm has had many issues with their Clusters from 1998 and up . They short out . You must replace with either a used one , and hope its not damaged or bring to your local dealer and replace new.
They are easy to change out yourself used but new has to be programmed at the dealer and will cost in the neighbourhood of 600$ programmed

Symptoms of a P0500 DTC may include
: loss of anti-lock brakes the "anti-lock" or "brake" warning lamps on the dash may be lit the speedometer or odometer may not work properly (or at all) your vehicle's RPM limiter may be decreased the shifting of an automatic transmission may become erratic other symptoms may also be present
these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!
Sounds like the body control module has gone bad. It has a relay that caries considerable current to all of these accesories and wears out. It can also be a solder joint on the circuit board where this relay mounts. Hope this helps, Robert
that would be a mechanical failure of the speedometer head. the same signal that causes speedometer to move also should make the odometer work. and if its not doing that, you need a new speedometer assembly. good-day !!
multiple systems failures they are usually caused by a ground failure, many systems use the same ground , co check for ground to engine and to body and dash
That code most commonly means that you have a failure in the electronic module in the instrument cluster. Unfortunately, if this is the case, the only option is a replacement of the entire unit with a remanufactured assembly or a good, used unit.
Has the speedometer failed to?? if so, you are probably in need of the cable that runs from your transmission to the back of the speedometer. This item is called the speedometer cable. If just the odometer itself failed then you have to pull the cluster and have it serviced typically i take mine to the dealer if that happens. (just the cluster, not the whole car.) hope this helps.
I have the same problem. I think it is a loose connection rather than anything else but I do not know how to open the back of the speedo. Can anybody help?
