crank sensor is located on the front of the engine behind the
timing belt covers and is mounted to the front of the engine block. the alternator has to be moved to feed the harness down the front side of the block to replace the crank sensor it has a tone wheel that may have to be moved the remove and replace sensor
The crankshaft sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer. There is a special tool you can rent/loan from your local auto parts store in order to remove the harmonic balancer. Once it is off 2 bolt hold the crankshaft position sensor in place. Note there could be many other factors causing your engine to stall or not restart; but those crank sensors do tend to go out on those engines.
The crank sensor is located behind the crank pulley on the 3.8 liter. The crank pulley must first be removed. A 15/16" socket, three very long 8 x 1.0 bolts (pretty sure that is the size, some large washers, and a crank pulley pulley will be required.
With the crank pulley removed mark the bracket where the old crank sensor is located so that the new sensor can be placed in exactly the same position. Failure to do this will result in the new sensor and/or the crank pulley being severely damaged.
Then it's as simple as removing the old sensors and installing the new one.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
It depends on which crank sensor you are wanting to replace. There are two of them. The 24X sensor is located behind the front crankshaft pully and the crank pully must be removed to change it. The 7X sensor is located in the engine block on the right bank (firewall side) near the rear of the engine. This one simply pulls out of the block after disconnecting the electrical connector and removing the single bolt that holds it.
Crank sensor; right (pass.) side of block above the starter. You may have to remove the starter to remove the crank sensor.
Knock sensor: There may be 2, a front and a rear. Both would be UNDER the intake manifold on top of the engine block one behind the other about 8 inches or so apart. The manifold and associated item may or may not need to be removed to access the sensors.
the crank sensor is located beneath the intake between the starter and oil filter it has one small bolt in it remove the bolt and pull the sensor out and just stick the new one in put the bolt back in it and plug it up but make sure you disconnect the battery before you do anything that bolt is probably a 10mm or a 5/16 i hope this helps
