My dash in my 2006 canyon isn't working, can't find the problem

Did you have the vehicle hooked to a factory scan tool to see if it will talk to the scan tool . Your instrument cluster is electronic an has a microprocessor inside , it is connected on the serial data communication network or bus as it is called . It's hard to find a problem when you don't know how it works >
All the gauges in the instrument cluster receive there info from the ECM - BCM engine an body computers on the data bus .
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the vehicle speed.
PRND321 Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRND321 display blanks if:
The ECM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.

The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM.

This you should take to a ASE qualified repair facility or the dealer ! It is possible to short out the data bus an bring down the system , meaning nothing on the vehicle will work !

Gear select problem

The PRND321 switch is mounted on the transaxle assembly. It is a multi-signal switch sending information relative to gear selector position to the BCM and ECM. The PRND321 switch also contains the neutral safety {start} switch and back-up light switch. It also provides park input to the automatic door lock module {if equipped}. Your problem is not an internal transmission problem. The service manual says to check for open circuits or shorted ground circuits through a diagnosis chart that is in this manual. One part of it, at the end says to replace the PRND321 switch and the other says to replace the BCM or repair the open circuit or wire, depending on what code is read through the BCM. Having worked at a Buick dealership, I have sold a few of the switches for various problems. This switch is under the hood and on top of the transmission in-which it is exposed to heat - cold and water. My suggestion is to reset and clear the codes on the diagnostic center and see if they come back. Check connectors on the switch and if codes come back replace switch since it would be less expensive than a BCM. The switch is a wear item as it is moved every time you move the gear selector.
