Question about 1994 Chevrolet Lumina APV

1 Answer

When engine is cold the vehicle will start right off. When it has been driven a few miles and shut off, to run in the store for example, it will sometimes not start. The engine turns over very fast but you get absolutely no result. No trying to catch or popping, etc. If you then leave it alone for 5 minutes it will usually start right off. This is a 1994 Chevrolet minivan with a 3.8 liter engine

At a cold start and driven for 3 or 4 miles, the vehicle shuts down. It restarts and doesnt do it again unless its a cold start.

These are the hardest problems to solve on vvehicles. I would start by taking the vehicle to a local parts store and see if they can check the computer(ECM module). Alot of stores likee Autozone can hook up a scanner to your electronic control module. It may be the ECM module. You can get ECM's from salvage yars sometimes. Hope that will get you headed in right direction.

My 1994 Camry idling problem.? It's a 1994 Camry V4, 2.2 L. After i changed the head gasket, my car idle became too slow. It seems like it doesn't have the cold engine starting idling anymore, i...

If it runs fine and the idle is the only problem you could try idling it up some with the idle set screw on the throttle body it sounds like it may be a little bit out of time those toyotas have a fine lins on the timing.

Over heating engine, can drive for 1 mile without damage?

Any engine, when cold, takes at least 3 miles before reaching operating temperature.. After reaching operating temp it still takes a mile or 8(depending on your vehicle) before "over" temperatures are reached. Therefore if needed, a vehicle can be driven several miles without any coolant/water at all before overheating and causing damage, if started from from cold.

Cold start no problem. Engine warmed and driven,

I do not think it is the PVC valve. I could be the Idel air control vavle, the tps sensor (throtal postion sensor), and it could also be a vacume leak. Is the check engine light on? if it is then you need to run the codes to get a better idea of where the problem is. if not that does not mean that the computer is not picking up any codes. you should check the codes right after you experince the problem and you should run the koeo test. key on engine on test that will pick up any codes from the sensores while the engine is running. this is all asuming that you have a modern vehical that uses a computer. if your vehical is older and does not have a computer it could be a sticking float in the carb. or a few other posablitlys. What is the make model and year of your vehical ? with this information i will be able to give you a more definate answer
