I agree with thunder it is very possible your engine or tranny mount or mounts, but if all mounts check out good it also could be a worn cv axle.

Sounds like you may have a loose tie rod on the front end, or the alignment is off, take it to a shop that deals with alignments, and have one done on the car... cause they will replace and fix the parts, and align it to have it drive straight...hope this helps you out

Have your engine mounts checked. The condition you have is called torque steer.

If it is PULLING to the right, is it STEERING or TORQUE that is pulling it?

What I mean is this... If ONLY your Right Front Wheel is pulling with the Acceleration and the LEFT is not,m you will have a Torque Pull,

You may have a problem with your
a. Left CV Axle
b. Transaxle Internal Failure

You need to get an alignment, and i think you will find that some of your front end parts, such as ball joints and tie rod ends, have reached the end of their service life and will need to be replaced before an alignment can be done.

I'm preparing to remove front right axle shaft (Cv half shaft) in a 1998 ford Escort zx2 with ABS and Auto trans. Is it held in the transmission by a spring ring or a snap ring?

It is held in by a spring ring. You need a good strong pry bar and you position it between the hub of the axel and the case of the trans and **** hard pulling it out. It sometimes is seated well, but keep trying. It will fight you sometimes.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like an accelerator cable that is getting stuck in its sheath or linkage under the hood the is sticking. Try pulling up the accelerator pedal when the engine is racing; if it drops down to normal idle, then the above is a good place to start.
