The light that is not functioning is the Speedometer lamp, I replaced it but it didn't help. When I reviewed the wiring chart it didn't seem like there was a fuse for it.

the lamp that glows ONLY in park and only if the dimmer is higher than the noon sun...dig. the park dim lamp in the car, tonight turn on park, then look , there are many lamps glowing in car and outside, see them, now look at the dash, see those, mpg lamps, cluster lamps, speedo laps. now filddle the dimmer knob. do the all dim? but the speedo lamp is dead. that means its bad. or the cluster wring is bad, inside cluster. all those dimmable lamps are wired in Paralllel, that means if one work they all must work, see? i rebuild classic speedos. so know the insides well. the schematic is here see wiring.

see wiring YJ chapter,8w-92 , PDF page 88 for dimmer, see sheet 41, for cluster and optional guage package.sheet 43 , what do we see, 41, shows pin 21, and goes to 4 cluster buibs. PLD page.99, then we go to sheet 43,for volts , coolant and fuel gauges and 2 lamps there. ok., now you have a full schematic and i walked you to each illuminatioin bulb related, even the radio has illum dim bulb.

I understand what you mean by that all the lights should dim, since I changed the lamp it must be in the cluster wiring,

bad bulb, socket holder, bad connection to speedo contacts., etc. swap with 1 of other 3 to find if its in head.

I'll check the socket holder in the daylight tomorrow, i didn't know they could go bad. At least that will be an easy swap.

yes, some can corrode. jeeps and water are not strangers.

swapped out socket holders and it didn't help. On the good side, I like the brighter bulbs. Any further suggestions?

its just 1 bulb, if all bulbs work right on the dimmer line then the line is good, if hte bulb fails has low voltage to it , and only to it then that wire is bad. if the voltage is good to that bulb, is dead, then the bulb bad or the socket is bad. check for 12vdc at the bulb, if 0v, the path is bad. if 12vdc is there the bulb is bad or wrong bulb. try a voltmeter it will never lie to you. (dimmer on max)

I pulled the instrument panel and found some corrosion on the PCB. I scraped it away and tried some Circuit Writer on the damaged area. i made it worse now the light on the speedo and the tach are out. i got a voltmeter, have you got any more tips for troubleshooting? I am ready to just buy another instrument panel or at least a new PCB.

use the FSM pages for the cluster wiring, and the DMM, use the DMM on resistance scale,(mode) for continuitiy. the back side is called flex-pcb, its just printed circuits, paths of copper, no need to remove anything there, just use the meter . the schematic is simple, the page 10 in the FSM shows this, see page 10,chapter, instrument panel. the 16 pin connector, runs the lamps. all of them. a good connnection is 0 ohms but infinity is bad.

When i take my multi-meter and put one probe on pin 21 and the other at the connection for the lamp, I get an initial reading around 6.X (something like that) then it lowers down to zero. Is this a good reading or bad. When I touch the corresponding pin from the other side and put the other probe to ground, then same thing happens. I'm not sure what to think about this. Can you tell me if it means its broken or not?

what lamp, ? exactly> is this a park lamp? on the speed, if yes, you must first turn up the dash light dimmer to max , then the 2 pins on the base of the lamp socket have near 12v. not 6v. use the voltmeter in place of the lamp, the lamp socket has contacts that mate with the head flex PC, this PC (printed circuits) are just copper landing pads. the lamp socket touches those and 12v is there. the lamp glows, if 12v is not there the wiring in the head is bad, the park lamps are many in the head, not just one, and are all wired in parallel so that if one works the all must work, and if not, the lamp is bad, the socket is bad or the landing pads are bad. place the meter across the pads. both probes. One pad is ground 0v, other is 12v , park lamps on, dimmer max'ed.

    OK I'll try that

there are 3 tests. (across the bulb, then onside to ground and other side to ground (meter leads, volts) dimmer on max. bright., park lamp on, (1st click) this tells you exactly what side is failing . then take the lamp socket with lamp inside, in place, measure OHMS, should be 0 ohms. then apply 12vdc to the lamp socket the lamp (in hand not in car) must glow or the lamp is bad.

pin 21.? speedo parking lamps dead. i dont know what your 6.x was, on pin1, 6volts, and drops? 20volt meter range, with meter black lead to body ground and red lead to pin 21, this pin must be 12vdc, parking lamps on. if not the dimmer is bad or the fuse bad or the dimmer set real low or set to OFF. This is the 1st test. and tells you , one test, which is bad, the cluster or the feed (dimmer), all tests cluster attached. turn the dimmer to max for all readings. dimmer max is near 12v do the lamps glow, the cluster head has many lamps in it , are all dead? all the ones marked [1] seen on page 188, there are 5 park lamps in the head, both the Hi line and low line opted heads. page 188. If one of 5 lamps are dead, its a head problem if all 5 are dead its a dimmer problem or the FUSE. if all 5 are dead, you then check the fuse with any ohm meter (restance rx1) for 0 ohms. do not guess with fuses, test them. its easy. if fuse 19 blows, all 5 cluster head lamps die. if one of the 5 lamps is dead, take the other lamp socket lamp off the backs , (one that works) marked [1] and put it in to the dead lamp socket. does it glow, yes, then the dead lamp was bad, if it dont glow, the Flex PC is bad, in the head. all this is easy, see fuse 19 on page 172, in the PDF doc. then page 178, on that page note how many paths can short and blow fuse 19, vast paths. so i ask are all 5 park lamps in the cluster dead.?

REMOVE INDICATOR LIGHT

When you changed out the bulbs do the lights work? Or is the indicator light on and the lights don't work. If the latter then you likely have a bad connection to the switch or a bad relay.

Does a 1987 Honda Accord LX have a check engine light on the dashboard panel?

Check engine light must come on with all other lights. It's called a bulb check. So either the bulb has burned out or the previous owner disconnected it.

Check if the dashboard bulb is still okay, if so then change the fuse. you have to pull the dashboard to locate the bulb. all the best.

Brake lights not working and EPC light on the dashboard

probably you have either fitted the wrong bulb, accidently fitted the bulb wrong or shorted out the wiring or holder, look in your handbook for fuse location and double check your hatch bulb.

Taillights and Dashboard lights dont work anymore

the simpliest answer would be to check the fuses, they are located under your dashboard. View owner's manual to find out which fuse run which circuit. If that isn't the problem its more likely an electrical short or the bulbs need changing.Hope this helps.

Good Luck =)
