SOURCE: I have a coolant leak.2001 alero 4cy 2.4

Look around the sides of the motor. Aleros are famous for faulty pan gaskets. Ours has been in the shop twice for this. If the mechanic doesn't get it put in just right it will continue to leak.

If their is black smoke from the tail pipe then it's over fueling. First check is the air filter if it's o.k. then get the fuel system checked. You should be getting 30 to 35 mpg but if you have a bodykit and wide wheels fitted depending on the type of kit and wheel's it can take up to 10 mpg more to run it. If it has a lot of mile's on it and no service history the engine and injection system may be worn leaving it with less power ond more fuel. Your mecanic will do a compresion test for you which check's ware in your engine. As for the oil problem sorry I can't advise as I don't know where you see the oil but after washing it should be easily seen unless it is comming from behind a casing or someone may have spilled a bit when changing or topping up.

SOURCE: 1996 cavalier bad oil leak when running

Overfilled is not good but it would have to be very high to cause leak,There are numerous places in rear of engine that could be leaking.could be leaking from rear of intake, the oilpump drive o ring, but most likly leaking from rear main seal that seals at the rear of the crankshaft and the transmission will need to come out to access this seal. you will need to have the oil leak diagnosed to locate the exact spot.

Why wont my car wont hold water or anti-freeze and i cant figure out where its coming from or even going?

its possible that the engine is burning the coolant which would not show either by causing the oil to turn a milky color or leave a puddle were you parked. it may be just a small problem at the moment not causing the car to overheat. have the head gaskets checked for damage with a head gasket test. it could also be a possible intake gasket leak causing the coolant to be burnt but not leak into the engine oil. just somethings to check out.

I recently bought a 96 Celica and thinking of using fully synthetic oil which has done160,000k's and i also does not know what oil has been used by the previous owner. Will this make any effect ?

No effect at all,but will flow better, which is good, when engine is cold
The synthetic will possibly keep the engine cleaner
If you have no oil leaks at all, and want to spend $40.00 every oil change,go with the syn
I only use synthetic oils for everything (Mobil 1)

Double check coolant to make sure you don't have oil floating on top. It's either an exterior leak, which would mean head gasket or valve cover gasket or it's an internal leak which would also mean head gasket. It it was burning that much oil in that a time, it would run poorly and you'd most likely get a check engine light.

Oil leak

you must have the engine cleaned (externally), after that you may figure where the oil is coming from. Also it sounds like your transmission is slipping, check the transmission oil level and make sure the oil leak isnt coming from the transmission. Driving the vehicle with slipping trans will cause severe damage. Hopefully this helps!!
