Question about 2000 Ford Focus
Central locking not working off the key. battery in key is ok.back doors locked shut
It could be dirty terminals in the key fob, also make sure the battery is the correct way round, positive facing up, hope this helps.

I had a similar problem, the keyfob transmits a code everytime a button is pressed. The code changes every press and the sequence of codes is specific to the keyfob. The car is synchronised to the keyfob so it 'knows' what the next code will be (and a couple more). if you press the buttons on the keyfob out of range of the car the car and the fob become out of sync and they will not work together. you will have to google how to resynchronise the two (or check the handbook). There are different techniques depending on the model and year of car my 2012 fieta requires you to turn on and off the ignition 4 times in ten secs with a working key, the press a button on the non working fob, then a button on the working fob before turning the ignition on and off again to activate the non working fob. then all is ok.

check fuse 63 first.
Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
It could also be your GEM (generic electronic module) which is expensive as it controls a lot of stuff. A scan tool can be used to cehck for fault codes from the GEM.

Since it works, although reluctantly, we can safely say that the circuits to the lock actuator are working properly. The door lock actuator will be your problem-child. This is integrated into the door latch assembly and must be replaced as a unit. You will have to purchase the parts from the dealer, as they are not available in the aftermarket.
