2002 explorer i just put a new motor in it and now trans acting like its really low on fluid but its not ?

The car set with out running for 2 yrs b4 i replaced the motor could my valve body be sticking

Check your fuel pump. It doesn't cost much to change the filter, under $12.

I assume that the noise changes with engine RPMs, not vehicle speed since you mention washing down the engine - something pretty hard to do if the car is going down the road-
Is it possible that what you describe as a squeak is instead a whistle? The symptoms you mention related to water could mean that an intake manifold gasket (or another part of the intake system) has a bad gasket and is causing a whistling noise from air being pulled in where it shouldn't happen. If the failed gasket is allowing water into the intake system, that would explain why the engine sounds like it wants to die. 
You might take a 2-foot length of vacuum hose or similar, hold one end to your ear and move the other end around the engine to see if you can more accurately isolate the source of the noise, be it squeak or whistle.    Obviously, don't hold the hose too tight in case you get tangled up with a belt or rotating part.

oh boy! good luck with that one! your right, there is NO filler tube (some idiot imagioneers not so bright idea at Ford), the only way to fill that trans. is through the filler/drain plug, it serves BOTH purposes! stupid? yes MOST DEFINATLY agree! you'll need to purchase a kit from the dealer (of all places) along with the use of (oops),
a compressor and a brake bleeder/filler kit in order to fill the case itself. You can atleast fill the torque converter manually before you install a new, or re-install your old one. I highly recommend replacing it as they too are a problem child as well (clattering noises from internal broken parts inside it). Sorry for the sarcastics, but this trans. is 1 of Fords engineers much BIGGER screw ups! Good luck! oh, p.s. make sure you use ALL new Mercon V fluid ( obviously the "new" trans., but the converter as well.

Does sound like you need a new master cylinder. On a 2000 you wont need to back bleed. You will just need to follow the instruction and bleed the master and all four points. you will probably need to bleed the ABS block and proportioning valve but only if they have bleeders on them.

This may have to do with a bad wiring. Check all the wiring associated with EGR operation. Whenever a computer throws a code about high or low circuit voltage, it is usually attributed to abnormal wiring.

Generally, what causes C-4's and C-6's to be slugish going into gear, is the seals on the servo pistons are getting hard. The servo pistons are what apply pressure on the clutch packs, when the seals get hard the oil can blow past the piston and the clutch won't engage. It's worse when the the trany is cold and usualy gets better as the oil gets warm. You could try some transmission conditioner, the cheep stuff works as good as the high dollar stuff. Don't rev the engine to try to get it to go into gear, the clutch is trying to engage and you will burn the clutch up pack. If the clutches were replaced 3k miles ago why didn't they put seals in it at the same time?

Idles faster and shifts funny and hard


Often times it is a simple fix. Low trans fluid is one of the first things I would check on.

Either a stick or auto low fluid will act up if the fluid is low.

Be sure and check it according to manual. Warm trans fluid and then check it while running and in park.

no dont rid old cars-there classic and easier to work on then new -----the 3 before probly got overheated from towing or low fluid--a pressure test should be done--autotrans a very complex and any number of parts cudda failed--the solenoid shifters etc--if transmissions were flushed the valve bodys got clogged causing perminent failure

Usually if the trans is acting up new fluid isn't going to change a thing, that's usually a ploy to get you to spend some money, just what I have seen.. Q: does the trans act up more or less when hot or cold, if there is a difference with temp then changing the fluid isn't going to help you, but that's my opinion, I been a dodge tech for 17 years but anything is possible with cars......

If the underneath of your transmissions and motor are really greasy and dirty. There's probably a leak from a bad gasket. I would suggest changing your trans fluid and filter (gasket comes with filter usually).

1993 pontiac firebird automatic transmission will drive good but when I shift into reverse it will not move?


its not a sure fire fix but my 93 trans am did the same thing it had all forard driving gears and acted fine but no reverse so i with no better solution changed out the trans fluid and filter and just kept driving it but before i whent anywhere while the car was running i cycled it through the gears everytime b4 i left and about 2 weeks later i started it up and reverse was back i think it was due to a metal shaving that got lodged in one of the valve bodies a trans fluid flush is also a good idea i hope ur as lucky as i was

you are correct... there is NO dipstick

what you'll find is a double plug on the trans pan

when you remove the inner plug, with the trans fluid at 122deg you will see a slight stream of fluid

the key here is that the temp must be @122 a few degrees either way can affect the results

you need a scan tool to id the fluid temp

2002 Jetta TDI (Auto) hesitates when you put it in reverse (for a good couple seconds.) Car acts like it's in neutral. Could it be tranny fluid alone? Thoughts...


First would check the tran. fuild level to see if your fuild is low. Then i would recommend getting a trans. flush. This will improve your trans. greatly allowing the transmission to last a lot longer then it would if not having it ever done.

Over drive comes on and off and the trans jerks really hard


I had similar problem, suprisingly enough it was just low on tranny fluid, but the gentlemen at napa sold me on a tranny filter/gasket, was cheap and easy to put in, and havent had any complaints...

The trans fluid volume after filter/fluid change 2002 4 runner?


use the level you attained after putting that much fluid in to tell you how much more to add. Start the car, leave it in park with the emergency brake on as you do this. If you are halfway to the cold mark, add another 1/2 quart and check again. (the owner's manual should tell you how much it will hold.) Since trans fluid expands with heat do not overfill. After you get it to the cold mark, run it up the road for 20 minutes and then check it again. You should be at the top of the hot mark.
