How does one hook in the clutch pedal spring?

The spring is supposed to hold the cable in place

The spring on a clutch pedal is for returning pedal back after taking foot off it ,i dont think it holds the cable anywhere,it will hook on to pedal at top and the other end will hook to a bracket towards driver under dash get a torch lay on your back and you should see where the bracket is it will be directly inline with the pedal

When pressing the clutch I hear a distinctive click from the pedal. What could it be? It is as if the metal plate bracket is torn and getting worse?


i would advise having the area under the hood where the clutch cable comes through from the interior as there is a reinforced plate to stop the cable pulling through the bulk head , this reinforcing may be giving way , another reason for that type of sound could be the cable itself breaking gradually , as the cable is made up of thinner cables twisted together, my last thought is the clutch pedal return spring may just need some lubrication on the anchor points , this is the easiest thing to try first as just need to look up to the top of the clutch pedal locate the return spring and put a blob of grease where the spring is hooked in place , hope this helps

Spring came off clutch pedal is it an easy way to put it back on


If the spring has a long section that hooks around the pedal just use a screw driver and place the blade under the spring and on to the pedal arm and lever the spring back until the hook bit goes over the pedal .

My Nissan 95 sentra clutch had crunched and pedal would not spring back, found that clutch cable had snapped, replaced this and now my clutch pedal is still not 100% springing back, it springs back en


Check the spring to see if it has snapped anywhere within it's coil.

Remove the cable and check operation of the pedal and spring mechanism.
If all is well, then with a lever, check that the clutch release arm on the gearbox is operational. If that is also sticking, then you will have to remove the gearbox to investigate further.
If not sticking, then also remove the clutch cable outer sleeve, and replace.

LIFT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO DISENGAGE THE ADJUSTING MECHANISM.THIS MUST BE DONE DURING CABLE INSTALLATION AS FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE SELF ADJUSTER MECHANISM.INSERT THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE DASH PANEL AND THE DASH PANEL GROMMET.( WARNING ) BESURE THE CLUTCH CABLE IS ROUTED UNDER THE BRAKE LINES AND NOT TRAPPED AT THE SPRING TOWER BY THE BRAKE LINES IF EQUIPPED WITH POWER STEERING ROUTE THE CABLE INBOARD OF THE POWER STEERING HOSE.PUSH THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE INSULATOR ON THE STOP BRACKET AND THROUGH THE RECESS BETWEEN THE PEDAL AND THE GEAR QUADRANT.LIFT THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO RELEASE THE PAWL ROTATE THE GEAR QUADRANT FORWARD AND HOOK THE CABLE INTO THE GEAR QUADRANT.INSTALL THE CLUTCH SHIELD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT BRACKET.ON THE TEMPO OR TOPAZ INSTALL THE PANEL ABOVE THE CLUTCH PEDAL.USING A PIECE OF WIRE CORD OR TAPE SECURE THE PEDAL IN THE UPMOST POSITION.INSERT THE CLUTCH CABLE THROUGH THE INSULATOR AND CONNECT THE CABLE TO THE CLUTCH RELEASE LEVER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.REMOVE THE DEVICE USED TO TEMPORARILY SECURE THE PEDAL AGAINST ITS STOP.ADJUST THE CLUTCH BY DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES.INSTALL THE AIR CLEANER.

I have a 97 golf and my clutch pedal just hit the floor. I see a rubber piece on the fork that looks like it might have had something to do with holding the cable in place. can anyone tell me what part is...


Since its not a hydraulic clutch, the cable might have either slipped off the thread or possibly broke. Also check the spring to make sure that is still in it.. just look underneath the pedal.

Don't know where my return spring goes on my 71 firebird for the clutch.


You should have a heavy return spring under the dash on the pedal and a lighter one on the clutch linkage with one end hooking beside the rod pushing onto the clutch pivot. (some have a small hole for the spring) (The clutch pivot is the part going into the bell housing holding the bearing) and the other end hooking on something that will keep the pivot and bearing away from the clutch when you are not pushing the clutch pedal.
TIP. When sitting stopped for any length of time with the engine running......(and more important with heavy duty clutches)....put the vehicle in neutral and keep your foot OFF the clutch.

How to relace clutch cable on 1995 saab se 900 turboon saab 900se


1. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the clutch cable end from the clutch arm end at the wire stop.
3. Slide out the rubber doughnut from the gearbox housing which holds the clutch cable
4. Move the distribution box nut and the alarm pin attached to it (some modules)
5. Disconnect the clutch cable holder from the fender and the data link holder.
6. Remove the drivers lower panel below the steering wheel and remove the air duct as well as the knee shield.
7. Slide out the fuse box holder and ICE Box (should be a black box with many wires going to it). You can remove the instrument cluster at this point but you can also do this without removing the cluster with a little patience
8. Move the pedal spring to one side and remove the eye catch for the cable.
9. Remove the clutch cable by pulling it out from the engine compartment
10. Reinstall in the reverse. Saab actually came out with a bulletin which Needed one to install two washers at the back of the new cable instead of one. The factory cable comes with one but you can remove the 2nd washer off the old cable and install it on the new cable so two exist. This helps take up excessive pedal slack.

Clutch won't engage


Check the clutch cable behind the pedal, see if same cable is hooked to the clutch on the motor side, ask a friend to move cable from pedal side, and find out the cable that moves inside the motor.
Check also that cable is fixed into pedal backside.

If cable is OK, then the clutch disk it is stuck on its springs and stays opened. To fix this the clutch assembly must be taken apart, this is quite a challenging job for an inexperienced DIYer, better to take the car to a mechanic in this case.

Hi,

To my knowledge, the spring is merely to assist the pedal to return at its default position (clutch engaged), that is pedal up. Normally, it would have an exaggerated j ends. The ends are meant to hook to two (2) slots, one at the pedal itself, the other at the bracket/housing or firewall and not replace the entire clutch assembly. Having said that and as per your post, the clutch works fine, it is a matter of finding a replacement spring of similar physical characteristics/dimensions and hook in place. Hooking in place is relatively easy saved that you have to crouch down and use a long noise pliers. A mechanics troubleshooting lamp would help seeing where the j ends would and should go into.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
