Vy v6 ute i went to check my coolant and there was none in there so filled it up and it started to boil after a bit bit my temp gauge said it was fine and the fans aren't coming on?

Have a compression test done as it may not be boil as such but getting compression pressures into the coolant system from a blown head gasket or cracked head

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head.This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor.The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help.This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

I had this problem with a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. I changed the coolant sensor and even though the check engine light went out I still had a reading of "---" on the coolant gauge. The problem is most likely one of three things: a low coolant level, a bad coolant sensor, or the thermostat needs to be replaced. The only other possible thing it could be is a bad BCM (Body Control Module) which in that case you would most likely be having other weird problems.

The Thermostat and the sensor are both very easy to get to and replace. Take off the engine cover by removing the oil cap and they are both to the rear of the engine on the driver's side. They are right next to each other.

it is a variable resistance that changes with the coolant temperature
when it is cold ,that is the highest resistance and when it boiling ,that is the lowest resistance
It is the variable resistance that gives the readings on the gauge.

My landcruiser 79 series ute over heated temp gauge went into red replaced pump belts filled up with new coolant but now the gauge just stays in red permanently even when u first start car from cold.


You should replace the temp guage sender unit. First disconnect wire from sender and with a test light connect one end to wire and one to earth turn ignition on and gauge should start at base and slowly work its way up. Faulty sender. If gauge still on full when disconnected from sender then gauge is either stuck and need replacing

Car keeps boiling tru resivour at side. all coolant boiled outta it found out it was a broken radiator cap. got new cap what coolant do i put back in and how much


Get the green stuff and mix it 50/50 with clean water. With the vehicle cool fill up the radiator until it is full and then fill the overflow tank up to the cold fill level. Start the car and take it for a spin making sure to get it up to operating temp, let it cool and then see where your level is on the overflo tank. Fill up to the hot mark and then repeat a couple times and you should be good.

I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl. i was driving and noticed the battery gauge said the battery was dead and then i noticed the check gauges light went on. i pulled over and saw my temp gauge...


well check the coolant level. it sounds like you had a vapor lock and that would cause steam to escape and cause connections to get wet. this may have cause your battery to read dead. if you aren't low on coolant then i would start with the thermostat. that is easy to change and cheap. if you have low coolant then you may have vapor lock. to fix that you need to let the engine cool down and if you have a radiator cap remove it. look inside you should see coolant. if you don't fill up the radiator with coolant. with the cap off start the jeep and turn the heater on. let the engine warm up. watch the temp gauge and keep looking in the radiator. if you don't see coolant keep add it. at times it will bubble and burp this is normal. keep checking the temp gauge. now see if you feel heat coming out of the heater. if your feeling good heat then the system is circulating. (this mean your not in vapor lock anymore) let it keep running and keep adding coolant till it is full in the radiator. once full put the cap back on and fill the coolant tank to the full point. keep running it but keep checking the temp to be on the safe side. if the temp stay steady you should be good. hope this helps. please rate.

When idoling or driving car coolant starts boiling over at resevoir.I changed thermostat but did not help.when it boils over,temp is not even half way on gauge

Your coolant temp sensor may be defective, check wiring also, if this senor doesn't send the signal the Cooling Fan won't kick in. Fan will come on when temp reaches half way on gauge.

NEW RADIATOR,1 YEAR WATER PUMP, NEW THERMOSTAT, STILL OVERHEATS,SENSOR OK, ERRATIC READINGS ON HEAT GAUGE WHEN DRIVING A SHORT TIME GAUGE GOES UP TO HOT AND ENGINE IS HOT. PARK FOR SHORT TIME AND THEN TURN...


Check first if the fan is running, you can do this by pulling out the temp sensor at the lower radiator hose. You should see the fan go on. If the mechanics has checked out everything, I suggest to see if there are added load on the engine such as busted bearing on the pulleys for the serpentine belt. Observe the coolant if it is boiling hard when you notice the temp go up. It might be a problem withe the sensor which triggers the ECU to shut the engine.
