I had the same problem. Same year, too. 2004 4.7L Durango. Took it to a Dodge Dealer in Oak Lawn, IL. Problem was when it rained out water got into the engine from the hood by the windshield wipers. The spark plugs got all wet causing the engine to hesitate and shake. I had to have a water dam installed and never had anymore problems. Hope this helps you out.

I have this same problem and actually found this myself. Can you tell me where to get a water dam? I can't find any online.

I have a 2004 dodge durango and the lighting volt stable is on my dash

It has to do with the Electronic Throttle Control. ( as per the owners manual)

12. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Light 5.7L
Engines Only
This light informs you of a problem with the
Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem
is detected the light will come on while the
engine is running. If the light remains lit with
the engine running your vehicle will usually be drivable,
however, see your dealer for service as soon as possible.
If the light is flashing when the engine is running,
immediate service is required and you may experience
reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine
stall and your vehicle may require towing. The light will
come on when the ignition is first turned on and remain
on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does not come on
during starting, have the system checked by an authorized
dealer.

04 dodge durango slt. Every time it rains my car stalls and check engine light comes on. Went through car wash also and it died. I can wash myself and don't have this problem. Maybe under engine??.

Something is getting wet. Check the codes with a code scanner to see if you can isolate the problamatic area. The code/s may point you to what circuit is causing your trouble

2004 dodge durango stalls in rain or car wash

Mine has been doing this for a couple of years. No one can figure it out although today after the large amount of rain we have been getting, I heard water swishing as I was driving/taking a turn. I opened the rear passenger door and water was pouring out of my door. Then we were trying to see where the water was coming in. Looks like the seal is eroding on the doors' windows. So then I look at the seal from the front window to the bottom thingy that holds the windshield wiper. Lo and behold, the seal has eroded and is not even flushed up to the window anymore. This is where the water is coming into my engine and getting into my spark plugs. Had to have my spark plugs replaced; they said the rust on the spark plugs tells them that moisture is getting to them. After all this time, no one could figure this out until I did. So now I just have to get the seals replaced.

Check engine light comes on when it rains and after starting, engine will stop. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it is usally moist conditions such as rain or snow. Odometer has over 200,000 on...

You need to see what the check engine light is on for. The check engine light can come on for literally 1500 different reasons. something dealing with moist conditions can usually be tune up parts, spark plugs, wires coils etc.

Run in to a Pep Boys, or Autozone and get a free code scan done, to see what comes up and go from there. If code doesn't point you to obvious fix, get back to us with the codes and we'll help you from there. Much faster, and cheaper that way, then guessing.

Save a lot of guessing and unnecessary expense & run into a PepBoys, or Autozone and have them scan for trouble codes (free) and go from there. If it's obvious from codes, what the problem is, buy the part while your there, but if not, get back to us with code(s) and we'll assist you further.

Car hesitates and sputters

It seems like you have a vacuum leak in a hose some where. Check under the hood for any rubber hoses that are dry-rotted, cracks, or sharp bends in any of them.
