Question about 1998 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

I have a Ford F150 1998. When I start it up it has a high pitch noise coming from the engine. It used to go away but after a trip fishing and pulling my boat the high pitch noise is there all the time. Can you help me out with some possible solutions.

Thank you for the info. I had a friend say it could possibly be the alternator but I couldn't hear it comming from it and didn't do anything. After hearing it again from you I took the chance and bought a new one and it solved the problem. Thanks again blackbart31. I appreciate you responding.

contact the mechanic who did the job and have him arrange for the vehicle to be transported back to his shop for repair . He will be responsible for any work and parts that he used and for the recovery of the vehicle . If there is a problem then seek legal advice to recover all costs from him if he will not honour his work.

Engie high pitch noises

The most common cause for the noise is a slipping belt.
Either the belt is worn and stretched, or glazed.
If the belt tensioner is keeping the belt tight, you may need to replace the belt.

03 nissan altima high pitch whine from engine

I assume that you have a 6cyl engine, noise came from both worned secondary timing chain tenssioner shoes, just replace those two and while you have them all apart, also replace main tenssioner and guide, then all noises will go away. Good luck!

Continued battery drain and high pitched noise when car started

Maybe the alternator is bad. A high pitched whine could mean that the alternator is not working properly.

One can test, by removing the belt to the alternator and running the engine and seeing if the whine goes away.

My 2004 Chevy Trailblazer is making a bizaar noise when I start it up. It's starts as a high pitch squeal then drops to a lower pitch squeal then ends in kind of a grind. Thought it was a slipping belt but...

Hi Eabyrd05.
It's possible that you have a Starter or Flywheel/Flex-plate issue. Your starter Bendix may not be completely disengaging from the flywheel like it should. I would take it to a mechanic that you trust and have them pull the starter and look at both the Flywheel/Flex-plate, Starter Bendix and solenoid. Hope this helps.

Same problem: a high pitch whine after extended driving

Sounds like a dry/failing bearing or power steering pump noise. You first need to try to track down where the noise is originating, and the most likely place is at the front of the engine.
I would start by listening with the hood up while parked with the engine running and the noise present, and seeing if it is coming from there. If so, the most likely cause is something connected to the belt - e.g. AC compressor clutch, tensioner, power steering pump, or generator. Can also be caused by the belt just slipping (warn out belt, tensioner not working properly).

High Pitched noise

I had a high pitch noise, didn't sound like it came from the "underside". Turns out it was one of fans that had little chips in the blades? My Audi dealer replaced it, and it's fine now.
