Instead of removing the engine mount, just slide the fan housing (holds the two electric fans) out of the way. You only have to thumb the two top clips open (no tools required), then lift the housing from its lower supports and slide it several inches away from the alternator (really easy to do). This allows plenty of clearance to remove the alternator and replace it.
The hardest part is once the alternator has been disconnected from all its mechanical and electrical connections. It won't come out unless the passenger side engine mount is unbolted ( 3 bolts, 19 mm I think ) and the engine is pried forwards. Once this was done, it would be pretty easy. Don't forget to remove the negative battery terminal before starting.

With a multimeter check the voltage at battery terminals. Should be more than 12.6Volts when engine off, and at least 14 volts with engine on. If the battery voltage is less than 12.6 volts then you need a new battery. If the voltage is less than 14 Volts with running engine, then the alternator is not working properly. A stop at AutoZone might help. They scan codes, and check alternators for free.

Why is my 2006 ford focus requiring 4 alternaters

Why ,I have to ask, would you replace several alternators on a vehicle. First you test, the one, on the vehicle or remove, the first one and have the auto part store check it out. If bad,you buy one new one, and test it,before you leave the store. Upon installing the first one, you run several on car tests, to confirm it works properly. If not, then you need a diagnostic chart, usually an emissions manual,to find the problems. Your best bet is to leave it up to a repair shop,if throwing parts at your vehicle is your attempt to repair it. What your doing lacks common sense.

sounds like a dead battery. Does it run while it is hooked to jumper cables and then die when they are disconnected? If so then you could have a dead alternator as well. The battery is primarily used to start the vehicle and then run all the electrical options. The alternators job is to recharge the battery and run the engine.

Alternator problems

To change the alternator you do not have to romove or loosten the engin mounts. It is a tedious job but it can be done by loostening and removeing the bolts that hold the alternator on. There is also an adjuster on the alt. to tighten the belt up when it is replaced. You should have this done by a technician so you have a warranty with the job. I hope this helps. don,t forget to rate my answer
