If this is a diesel you should not use starter fluid unless the glow plugs and glow plug controller is removed. If this is a diesel you most likely have air in the fuel system. When changing fuel filter on a diesel fill the filter container with clean diesel, screw the top of the fuel filter canister on open the bleed screw and turn the engine over until only clear fuel (no air bubbles)is bled from fuel system. Then you may have to turn loose the connector on the innjectors to bleed more air out of the fuel system.

If it does , spray some carburetor cleaner in the engine through the throttle plate ,does it try to start ? If no check fuel pump electrical circuit . My 2001 Tahoe ran fine going to work. When I got off work, I started it up and it ran for 20 seconds then shut off. started again and started to go home. It jerked twice then ran 100 yards then shut off....

Check the crank position sensor. Also it could be as simple as a bad coil or coil wire. It definitely sounds electrical if you hear fuel pump priming. Also check distributor cap and rotor. Hope this helps

88 toyota camry....drove car...parked it....when I went to start it lil later it just turned over but wouldnt fire....checked spark at plugs and had spark...fuel pump is working...even used starting...

Depending on how long it sat you may have either a weak spark (which will not start the combustion) or a timing issue. The timing belt may have slack, caused by a loose tensioner.

Truck is a 98 Denali I drove out of town when I can back tried to start it up nothing after checking for spark its good then I tried to check fuel pressure I had 0 so I tryed replacing the fuel filt

Sounds like the fuel pump went bad, a test you can try , this is not a sure test just a quick check, have some one beat bottom of the gas tank while you try to start it, this sometimes shakes the pump and make it run again, if it does start the pump is still bad.

Ford mustang tries to start but will not continue running. We checked the battery, spark plugs, starter, and alternator. We believe the problem is either with the fuel pump driver module or the pump...

try spraying starting fuid into the throttle body and see if it runs then for a few seconds. If yes, check fuel pressure. It should be 34 psi with engine running, 40 psi key on engine off. More liley th pump in the fuel tank.
