Why my 2001 Honda civic will not shift into overdrive even going 40 miles an hour?

There are adjustments to be made on the outside linkage of your transmission. Take it to an honest transmission shop that won't tell you to replace the whole transmission.

I have a 2001 honda civic ex 1.7 liter, and when I have to brake suddenly the car idles down really low like its wanting to die. Is this the timing

I doubt it very much. The engine slowing down under brakes indicates that the gears are not down shifting in relation to the engine rpm and road speed. run fault codes and look for a TCM sensor problem

How to replace oxygen sensor on a 2001 Honda Civic

before you do anything, let the engine and exhaust line cool down first. disconnet the electrical connector to the sensor, spray some lubricating fluid like " WD 40 " to the thread of the sensor, allow for a few minute then use the right spanner to turn the sensor. here you go, the sensor is now removed. Installing a new sensor is just the reverse. Enjoy it.

Change out the transmission lube use a full synthetic fluid that is less prone to cause this type of cold related shift issues.

My mechanic told me I need a transmission sensor could you please tell me where I could buy that at? I have looked everywhere for it.It is a 1991 honda civic dx.

I think your mechanic is talking about a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Are you having trouble with your gauges, speedometer, or shifting points, etc...?

Auto trans won't shift out of 2nd

Unfortunately there is really no good way to tell if it is internal or external without expensive equipment and experience.
About the best you can do is check the fluid and make sure it is full. You can smell it to see if it smells burned or if it is really dark.

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
