Are you certain it is the oil pump? Have you checked the actual oil pressure with a guage? There are other things that could cause low oil pressure, such as the pressure relief valve. I would get a manual on the car. This should tell you all you all you need to know, including how to change the oil pump, if that is indeed necessary. I'm not certain if you can pull the pan on that car without pulling the engine. Some you can, but you have to support the engine while you remove the cross member. Again, a book will show you the easiest way. I hope I have been helpful.

runs great no knocks or rattles at idle that what has me puzzled shows no pressure after warmed up but run smooth and no noise at all

Sounds as though it is getting oil. Check the sending unit, AND/OR check the actual pressure at the engine with a pressure guage. That is the safe way. I hope this helps.

How difficult is it to change the oil pump in a 1998 camaro(3800 V6)?

Should be inside the timing cover. You remove the timing cover to access the pump parts. Not really a pump assembly like pumps mounted inside oil pans.
I doubt the pump is faulty.
Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge ?

Drag car with 454 chey lost oil pressure at end of run

You probably need to restrict oil flow to the top end, with a high volume pump and high rpm you can pump all the oil up to the top end of the motor and starve the oil pump and loose pressure.

Oil problems

Does it spin sluggish or faster than normal or normal ? If it was the oil pump it would still start. Unless the motor is locked because of lack of oil.

Where is fuel relay

The fuel pump relay is only for the fuel pump priming when you turn on the key. After the vehicle starts the oil pressure switch takes over and runs the pump. If the pump is shutting off after the motor is running the oil pressure swith is probably bad. Let me know if i can help you further.
