Sounds like a vacuum problem on the trans, ck it out

you have to be a little more specific here what kind of vechile do you have , sounds like there might be a little dirt in the electric connection if activated that way or sticking gear

Tring to remove cv joint on 2001 intrepid but transaxel shaft seems stuck to cv joint cant dislodge.....does it have a lock or something.......whats the best way to remove


use a large pry bar pry the inner tripod cv joint out of the transaxle differential gears.you have a retaining circlip that holds transaxle in place in the transaxle.besure to replace circlip and o ring seal on the transaxle stub shaft.torque strut assembly to steering knuckle attaching bolts.install the nuts to the attaching bolts and while holding bolt heads torque to 125 ft lbs and torque axle hub nut 125 ft lbs

Should I keep overdrive on or off? also should keep ECT on or off?


Hello. Welcome to FixYa. I am Toyota Ed, and I will be assisting you today.

The Overdrive function allows the transmission to shift an extra time, sort of like selecting 5th gear in a 5 speed manual transmission. The Overdrive, when used, will save you gas, as the engine is no longer maintaining a high RPM at normal driving speed. Look at the tach whilst driving about 45 mph, and engage/disengage the OD. You will see the tach RPM raise when the OD is off.
More RPM = lower fuel mileage,

The ECT is a different circumstance. The ECT button is used primarily when you have a heavy load in the car, or are towing something. All the ECT button does, when it is engaged, is lengthen the shift points as the transmission upshifts. Normally, the transaxle will shift into 2nd gear at 18-21 mph. When the ECT is engaged, the transaxle will shift in the area of 22 -24 mph. In short, the ECT just makes the time to the 1-2 and the 2-3 upshift longer, to compensate for the additional load being carried/towed.

Try trans x to try and clean the filter in the transmission,you can purchase it at an auto parts store,if the filter is stopped up,it will clean it ,and you will be on your way.Also,a product only available at N A P A auto parts call Lube Guard.I hope this will help you thank you.

What is the difference in a carrier pin and a park pin, and can I fix this without taking the transaxel out?


They are two totally different pins with different jobs. The carrier pin holds the differential pinion gears sometime called the spider gears in place by pinning their shaft to the differential case. The park pin secures the park pawl to the transaxle case. Neither pin can be changed without removing the transaxle and disassembling it to get to the pins. They are both in the bottom end of the transaxle case on most automatic transaxles.

What are the metal tubes for above the transaxel filter? 1 is lose and need to know how to get it to stay up in the trans. Axod transaxel


They are to transfer fluid to different parts of the transaxle. If it is loose it could cause an internal leak which could result in lower that normal oil pressure in the transaxle. Low oil pressure could cause transaxle failure because clutches would not apply with enough holding pressure. I would suggest replacing it with a new one or see if you can expand the loose end and press it back into it's bore.

My 1989 Jeep with AW4 transmission does not downshift or ?


This model has a tranny computor under the dash on the right side screwed to the bottom of the dash. If I remember correctly, there is also an inline fuse attached to the harness. Check the fuse.

Overdrive button


from the car manual:

Tum the overdrive switch on for good fuel
economy and smooth driving. If engine braking
is needed in the "D" range or if repeated
upshifting and downshifting between the 3rd
and 4th gear is needed when climbing a
gentle slope, it is recommended that the
overdrive switch be tumed off. Tum the
overdrive switch back on immediately afterward.

When the overdrive switch is tumed on, the
transaxle will automatically upshift to the second,
third and overdrive gears. When the overdrive
switch is tumed off, the transaxle will not
upshift to the overdrive gear. For normal driving,
the selector lever should be left in the "D"
position and the overdrive switch tumed on.
If you need to accelerate rapidly, press the
accelerator pedal all the way to the floor. The
transaxle will automatically shift to a lower gear,
depending on the vehicle speed and load.

Hyundai has a TSB for this: 07-40-010 - AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE HARSH AND/OR DELAYED
UPSHIFT OR DOWNSHIFT". This one will also refer to TSB# 06-40-005 - AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE CONTROL MODULE -RESET AND RELEARN ADAPTIVE VALUES. either need to be performed by the dealer.
