Do a cylinder leak down test, to check for valves not sealing

If they are good, I would say your timing chain & gears are worn

& need to be replaced.

Everyone replaces parts for no reason, because nothing is visually

looked at, or anything at all tested, to even see if any parts are necessary.

Everyone lives in the 1960\'s, but fails to work like we were still there

& it bits you

Everyone skips the basics of the mechanical

condition of the engine

If it has a distributor, pull the cap off & put the motor at TDC

& I bet the Rotor doesn\'t line up where it should because the

top timing gear is worn & the timing is retarded

Need correct fuel pressure & can\'t have a clogged exhaust

converter

SOURCE: eng. shakes spits/sputters oil in spark plugs

I just had this fixed on my suby today. The cause is that the spark plugs, go through the valve covers on the 2.5 l .When the o rings in the cover go, the result is oil in the spark plugs. The cost of the repair in Canada was about $500 including diagnostics as well as new plugs and wires About 1.5 hours labor and new seals and gaskets. It now runs like new. This is a common problem for this subaru engine as well as for the dodge neon.

SOURCE: Code claims multiple misfires changed the plugs

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump unit (all in one) in the tank, fuel pressure is 49 psi, check the fuel pressure, check plug wires (ohm them), also take the coil to Auto zone and they will test it for free, I have run into all of these potental problems.

Bad coil pack

If your truck has spark plug wires, you will want to change those as well, as a bad wire can cause an ignition coil to short itself out internally.

When i start my 2001 kia optima my car putters. i changed my bad o2 sensors. but not sure what the problem is. and when i drive sometimes it jerks. what could the problem be

The spark and fuel system needs to be inspected.--------- The spark plugs are getting fouled or very loose, can cause sputtering problem.Inspect the spark plugs and coil packs. The spark plugs gets power from coil pack.If the spark plugs are very old and dirty, then it needs to be replaced.--------------- The **** problem also relates to faulty worn out spark plugs or clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure or problem with ignition coil pack.----------- When coil pack stops giving power to spark plug the car will **** while driving.---------- So very first thing you get tested is spark plugs and ignition coil packs. If they are tested good, but looks very dirty/ worn out, that can also be the reason.----------- But if spark plugs and ignition coil tested ok and cleaned properly, but still same problem, then get fuel pressure tested. If fuel pressure is low, the fuel pump and fuel filter are the cause of problem.----------- ------------------ Also one more thing, " IS there check engine light coming ON dash" ? If yes, then get the car scanned at autozone service center. Its absolutely free to get car scanned at autozone. They do it for no charge.------- In scanning you will get error codes, as per error codes, it will point towards faulty part, causing this sputtering and jerking problem.----------------- But if there is no check engine light ion dash, then get the above mentioned possibilities checked. That will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Code claims multiple misfires changed the plugs and it continues to sputter and backfire especially when going uphill. Fuel filter? coil pack? plug wires?

check your high tension leads or plug wires. If you find one out of the correct resistance range, about 7ohms per foot, dont discount that the missfiring has damaged the coil pack for that cylinder as the wasted spark had no where to got except hammering the coil pack. As for the fuel filter refresh them often as the standards of fuel from the pump can vary

2004 Ford Focus LX, was sputtering while driving

A flashing light is BAD. Its damaging the cat converter. I would check or replace the spark plug wires ( if all OK, then) replace the coil pack. I would not replace anything unless they test bad. but these car are known for bad coil packs.

Swap the coil pack to another cylinder if it is individual. If not, you should be able to pull the wire away from the plug and hear it fire. If not, you have a bad coil. If so, I would look at doing a compression test and possibly a leak down test.

Internal combustion engines requires 3 things... fuel, air, and spark. You do not have enough of one or more of these. If the wires and plugs are old, change them.  Air filter, same thing.  Fuel filter can also clog up with stuff after awhile. When you take a look at the air filter check where the air comes from.  It is possible a little critter has built a home and blocked the air flow (rare, but, it has happened).
