You must check for wear and alignment on the pulley with a straight edge like a steel ruler/yard stick. Likely you will find a bad bearing in the tensioner pulley or the crankshaft pulley is separating from the inner ring and walking outward.

Try removing the belt and turning each pulley by hand. If everything is smooth and free, with the belt still off, drive down the block once and see if the noise is there (this will eliminate all rotating accessories on the front). If you hear the noise, then there is a problem deeper inside. Oil pressure is good? Dont' forget when doing this, you will have no power steering, so be careful.

My sepantine belt keeps sliding off and brand new tensioner what could be the problem

check pulley alignment as any pulley that is out of alignment can cause this, maybe when you changed the timing belt you left out a spacer for one of the serpentine belt pulleys. also make sure the belt is on all the pulleys correctly.

Search Fixya.. serpentine belt shredding

Sounds like one of the pulleys is not aligned with the rest. You can use a straight edge to check the alignment.
I would also want to make sure all of the pulleys are secure and not loose or bent.

05 pt cruiser timing belt keeps sliding off after replacing belt, tensioner, pulley and water pump and it is driving nuts

If the belt is tight, and the tensioner is keeping it tight, my guess would be one of the pulleys is not aligned with the others.

I am trying to hange the serpentine belt on my 09 lancer rallyart and it keeps slipping off

Locate the two belts on the left side (passenger side) of your Mitsubishi Lancer. The outer belt is a serpentine belt, operating four pulleys and the inner belt is your alternator belt.

  • 2 Follow the serpentine (outer) belt to the three pulleys lined up vertically near the front of the engine compartment. Locate the middle pulley, which is the tension pulley for the belt.
  • 3 Loosen the bolt on the middle pulley with a socket wrench by turning counter-clockwise. Do not remove the bolt, just turn it a couple of times. Loosen the tensioner bolt on the side of the of the pulley, facing the front of the vehicle.
  • 4 Remove the serpentine belt and then loosen the bolt on the alternator. With the alternator loose, move it forward so that the alternator belt loosens up and then remove belt from the pulleys.
  • 5 Install the new alternator belt by placing it over both inside pulleys. Tighten the tension on the alternator belt by moving the alternator back and keeping tension on it by holding it back with a long screwdriver. While the alternator belt is tight, use a socket wrench to tighten up the bolt on the alternator.
  • 6 Place the serpentine belt back on the pulleys and then use a socket wrench on the bolt on the front of the tension pulley. Once the serpentine belt is tight, tighten up the bolt in the middle of the tension pulley.
  • 7 Start the Mitsubishi Lancer's engine to test the alternator belt and make sure it is working properly. Once you have verified it is working, turn the engine off.

My jeep keeps shreding serpentine belt

Either the tensioner is defective and needs replacing, or the pulleys are out of alignment. I would suspect the tensioner pulley is bad. I am assuming you are installing the correct belt.

Check alignment of the belt and check the condition of the belt because once it comes off it will continue to come off because the strands in the belt are broken.
