My 1996 pontiac firebird is stuck in drive. The shifter was feeling tight for the past couple of weeks and then when I put it in part to move it in the garage it won't go into park, neutral or reverse. Now the shifter moves freely. Any suggestion?

Shift cable between shift lever and transmission is bad. You need to replace it.

How do you replace it? Is it possible to do yourself? Do you have to go under the car or from inside the console?

In 1996 the Trans Am came with an LT1 unless an LS1 was swapped in. Timing is not adjustable in either engine though. Why do you feel you need to adjust the timing?

Shift lever is stuck in park. dont think it is the brake switch , feels like something in lever . 1996 grand am

It may not be the the brake switch, but may be related to it, if you can, pop your center console out, and see if there is anything jamming it. You should also try and pull the shifter knob off, may be something to do with the push button. Hope this helps!

I have a 2000 pontiac firebird won't start

try turning the key to the on position and put your foot on the brake pedal and shift in to neutral and try to start it there, wiggle the shifter a little towards reverse and towards drive to see if it fire,
if it doesnt check you headights to see if they are bright,or check voltage at battery with a multi meter, you need at least 12volts.
next try moving the cables on the battery to make sure they are tight
