Question about 2001 Lexus Gs 430

Open Question

Gs 430 problem

Car dies at the stop sign. I put the car back in park and start the car and it starts. I get home turn off the car and start the car a few times and it started fine. The next day I don't drive the car and on Monday I go to start to the car to get to work and the car doesn't start at all. The lights on the dash still turns on and when I turn the key all the way I just hear a click. What could be wrong? A few months before I had the alternator, battery, belt, and belt tensioner replaced.

SOURCE: all dash warning lights came

You're alternator has gone bad and the vehicle was running on battery power. The "clicking" sound is your now dead battery that does not have enough power to turn over the starter. You might also want to check your power steering pump for leak. This is a know problem with early LS400s and will most likey be the cause of the alternator failure. I just dropped $1050.00 to fix the very same promblems you have.

SOURCE: Car Powers Up, No turn, No Click, Nothing but power

I had a similar problem. My 1998 Lexus ES300 wouldn't start. I had to change idle control valve. I don't have such problems ever since. I read that many used Lexus/Toyota owners had the same problem with that valve.

SOURCE: A few days ago my car wouldn't start and just made

I had the exact same problem or almost 2 years. I kept buying a battery, because I thought that was the problem. I eventually took it to a mechanic and off course the car didn't act up when the mechanic had it for several days. Finally, I checked all of the fuses. It was the cigarette lighter fuse that was blowen. Since I changed that fuse, the car starts up with no problem. It's frustrating everytime you get in the car you cringe when you start it - LOL Hope this helps.

the battery of the car is not well connected. check for the main plus and negative to be very clean so there is not a bad contact.

Turns off after driving it for a few miles it will turn on again but once I put it in gear it will turn off again have to let it cool off till I could get it running again...

This could be a couple of different problems. You said it dies after it gets warm. Is this just like when you stop at a stop sign? And you say it starts back up but dies when you put it in gear? If you restart it and leave it in park it won't die??? Just dies if you put it in gear? I think it might be your torque converter clutch solenoid.

Car died while driving down the highway

Needs tuning. Also replace fuel and air filters. If that doesn't help then it may need piston ring replacement.

My 2003 Hyundai Elantra Starts by then Dies, as though it's not getting gas.

No! If you can start it right back up I seriously doubt it but you do ablsolutely need to change fuel filters every 15,000 miles and forget about oil changes they do nothing for the car. But a plugged fuel filter will kill a fuel pump and average cost of a gob like that here in Seattle is around $500-700.
But you need to find that leak and fix it you can be loosing enough fuel pressure through that leak to cause a problem like yours.
Please rate me as a fixya! Thank you Randy
