You might try cleaning the air intake especially the backside of the butterfly valve. with choke cleaner or a special cleaner made for that purpose. Remove the hose between the air filter body and the air intake. Open the butterfly valve and spray both sides of the valve as well as the sides of the intake. If that doesn't work you'll have to dig deeper. You'll probably need to monitor sensor in that case.

It could be a lot of things, check the gas cap, vacuum leak, IAC, may need a tune-up ( check plugs, wires, air filter), seizing pulley, timing issue (check CKP sensor and CMP sensor), sticking valves, misfire, Fuel line pressure, or an issue with CAT or muffler.Good luck.

Hi , i have a 1995 Escort with 1.9 4 cyl engine , at cold start the engine revs ok but as it get warmer it start to idle rought and die , with a scantool the o2 sensor always reed lean at idle , after checking fuel pressure , air mass meter , EGR valve , and potential vacuum leak at intake and hoses , its the PCV valve that give me that problem , as i remove the pipe with the valve there was a whissle noise comming from it , when i block the valve at its tip the whissle noise stop the engine revs smooter and the o2 reads normal , i replace the PCV and its idling good .

Have the fuel filter changed, then if this does not help, have the fuel pump pressure checked, and check for fuel contamination, fuel additives might help, heet, for moister, and lucas fuel treatment for contamination, and fuel cleaning, for the injectors. These are the best on the market.

2000. What causes the engine to want to stall at low idle?

Could be many things-- dirty IAC, bad MAF, bad tune up items, O2 sensor, clogged exhaust, bad TPS.

I have a 93 geo storm 1.6 just got it filled the tank and drove it for about 3 hours turns burned all the gas.. it starts when its cold then runs for a bit then shuts off..

in neutral or in gear, driving or not, only as you come to stops?
and can you save the stall with fast right foot action?
big clues there....

an oldy but a goody?
car stalls, there are 50 ways to stall a motor.
here is a list, (we never use lists. we use tools) but....
1: never tuned up the engine>, do the full 60kmile service, no?
2: EGR stuck open, see #1
3: ISC stuck closed (or IAC)
4: injector clogged or leaking.
5: TPS idle switch stuck open, (dead idle controls)
6: bad gas.
7: bad engine (low compression, or cam timing , way off)
8: bad spark timing ,see #1
9: clogged cat converter. (melted inside blocking exh)
and many more.
most 93s i ,see have many of those. like stacking up bricks on a camels back......

Codes are reading low tps voltage, mapps high voltage ignition on low voltage at idle. Idle surges sputers and stalls when driving. Replaceed mapp and tps with no improvment?

Have you consider to check the battery power. I believe the main problem you have is either the battery or the alternator. Due to these two things with low voltage the brain ( ECU ) does not have the enough power to work. Good Luck.

2004 chrysler sebring 3.0 stalls and will not idle. Engine lite came on and scanner said TPS low voltage on one side. I replaced TPS and it temporarily idled ok. Engine light is now off. Runs fine except...

This is where proper diagnosis comes in...as the TPS sensor voltage low because of a failed TPS sensor? Or was the TPS voltage low due to low battery voltage at the control module? Did you bother to check for the proper voltage at the TPS sensor connector before throwing parts at the problem? If the battery voltage goes low, it is NORMAL for the engine to not idle correctly. Low voltage at the control module can cause the computer to lose all of its "learned" data. It will have to "re-learn" how to idle the engine. This can sometimes take a few days. This is exactly WHY I keep telling people to not be disconnecting batteries in an attempt to "clear" computer fault codes.
If your battery has been going dead, you need to properly test and diagnose your battery and charging system. If this system is not working correctly, there is NO WAY your computer network can function correctly. - this MUST be diagnosed and repaired FIRST!

Every time my car comes to a red light it powers off.why?

EGR (exhaust gas recirculation),or TPS (throttle position sensor) When the vehicle makes a stop and go into idle. The RPM is basically too low to maintain the RPM, If the vehicle runs 800 RPM in park or neutral and doesnt stall the setting is correct. If it stall in neutral or park and has a hard time accelerating you will need a TPS, The EGR can stall a engine if it stays open underload approching a stop where it doesnt close properly

I have a 1996 mercury mystique with a 2 liter and the car idles high and when i put it in gear it idles low and dies...i have changed the throttle positioning sensor, idle air control valve, mass air flow...

Wow you change everything, TPS was right thing to do and so is the Idle air control, and MAF and EGR, fuel pressure, So it idles high then some one tried to defeat the stall in gear? Even if there is a vacuum leak creating high idle it shouldnt stall in gear, , What color is the transmission fluid? when in gear in drive step on the acelerator pedal to maintain idle to prevent car from stalling. Just enough to maintain let say 1100RPM. Is there a vibration? I mean a torque convertor vibration. Torque convertor stall are common an GM and Nissan, very rare do I ever see it on Ford. I really belive the IAC is not getting power and is just been adjusted manually, cause I know its not the transmission, At idle in gear pull the plug on the idle Air control does it change in idle setting? If it doesnt change in Idle setting the adjustment that was use to control the setting lower the idle to its normal setting. Plug the idle air control in then. The idle air should change the setting. If it doesnt its not getting the signal it should.

Low idle. 78,000mi recent very low idle almost stalling. Hwy miles 2006 GT. plugs never changed. TPS not changed or cleaned nor throttle body. Did replace a battery early in the year.

Most often, dirty or faulty 02 sensors will throw off the idle. The 02 sensors and camshaft position sensor basically control all the idle. If TPS was dirty or bad, you would have some hesitation when giving some gas. Bad plug would cause lack of power or misfire.
