EGR valve blow-out can be caused by a clogged catalytic converter. A clogged cat. converter will cause pressure to back up in the engine. A test to perform is remove the front oxygen sensor from the exhaust to see if the engine runs better. Removing the oxygen sensor will relieve the pressure if, in fact the cat. converter is clogged. Another cause for EGR blow-out could be that the timing has jumped. The timing can be checked to diagnose this issue.

SOURCE: egr valve keeps failing

That would be my diagnosis as well. Have someone follow you while you're driving it. Many times a vehicle with a failing cat. converter will smell like sulfer or rotten eggs to someone driving behind them.

2001 mazda tribute blowing holes in egr valve. When driving it starts out good then you gas on it it runs ruff then valve blows out it runs fine till I get home then dies.

This does not sound right at all. I have never heard of an EGR valve blowing holes! Buy a replacement like Ray says. If this happens again plan on replacing your exhaust system, all parts, because if it is clogged this is how car fires occur. Don't take the chance.

The egr valve regulator hose keeps blowing out. i took out the catalytic converter, replaced the plugs & wires, egr valve and still the same results

You removed the Cat? Maybe just plug the EGR regulator hose connection since you have no catalyst anymore.

Where is the egr valve on a 2.4l pontiac engine

Hi there:
The EGR is located on the front side of the engine. You will need to remove the air cleaner assembly the covers the front side of the engine. After this is removed, you will be able to see the EGR valve.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

That fuse powers shift soledoid 2 and the TCC solenoid. One of those 2 solenoids is probably shorted. The transmission will have to be repaired.

Blew egr valve after loss of power. gained power after it blew apart. thinking of blocking inlet pipe to see if lose power again. thinking bad cats=too much back pressure?

You may be on the right track, I've never heard of an EGR valve blowing apart and I've been doing this along time, but I suppose a plugged cat could cause it. Try blocking the pipe, if power goes down, you could be right. Do you, or did you have any codes prior to the valve blowing? A bad cat will usually set a p0420 code. How many miles on it?

HELP!!! My CE light keeps coming on, and when I hook up the code reader it keeps giving me a code 33 EGR valve code. The truck is a 5 speed without an egr valve. I cleared the codes many times and it just...

Fault code 33 means that the exhaust gas that flows into the upper intake when the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) valve is opened is insufficient, or was not sensed during active test by system computer, the 1st thing to do is pull a vacuum on the EGR valve the engine should stall or nearly die, it will shake like crazy if EGR flow is ok, if this doesn't occur and the EGR valve was seen to pull open u will need to remove the EGR valve from the upper intake manifold and clean/clear the EGR exhaust gas passage in that manifold, they get full of carbon and sludge and then restrict the gas flow from the EGR and throw the fault code 33, most times a piece of stiff steel wire and carb cleaner with compressed air will do it, in the worst cases I have had to have the upper intake boiled out by a machine shop.
