Question about 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Running hot, changed thermostat and flushed coolant, also changed top hose. Any ideas why it would still run hot?

1. blocked radiator core
2. blown head gasket
3. cracked head
4. water pump
These would be the major problems causing the overheating.
Timing could be another but unless the timing has been changed recently it is most probably one of the causes

I have a 97 chevy with the vortec 5.7 when my truck is at operating temp my top radiator hose is on fire ive never known it to be that hot i flushed coolent and replace thermostat last year is my gauge...

A bad thermostat stops coolant from moving into the top wont get very hot. Normal operating temperature for your truck is 190% F
The coolant filler cap should hold pressure at 16 PSI When a cap is failing it will boil over when the engine is turned off. If the gauge is reading normal and you are not loosing coolant.The top hose will still be very hot to the touch.

If you flushed the coolant with the thermostat in, chances are you didn't flush the coolant. Regardless, it's easiest to check the controls inside first. Does the blower fan work? Does the air flow change from floor to vent, to dash as it's supposed to? Does the A/C change temps when knob is turned from cold to hot? Post results.

99 ford contour gauge shows running hot. Change both sensors near thermostat and the thermostat. Flushed system and burped it. Ac or heat makes no difference. Fans seems to be working. Any ideas?

Is it ACTUALLY overheating? Check for heat at the top and bottom radiator hoses, and at both heater core hoses. If one is cold then your radiator or your heater core may be plugged and in need of a individual flush.

Why is my car running hot?

Check the coolant level when radiator cools down, check if the rad fan is working, check if both the rad hoses are hot when vehicle is running IF the bottom hose is not as hot as the top one then change the thermostat. If both rad hoses are hot then flush the cooling system making sure you evacuate all air when filling with coolant.

Replacing the thermostat how to replace it

the thermostate should be located where the upper rad hose goes into the nigine, u will have to drian the rad fluid a little but not the whole system

My lincoln ls v-8,is running hot after i changed the thermostat, & water pump what else could it be

Build up in the coolant system a faulty Sensor reporting that the engine is hot when it is not. You can try running a coolant flush through the system to remove that possible problem. If you are basing this overheating problem on coolant being forced out the over flow, do a compression check on the cylinders. If one or more of the cylinders is running extremely high compression you may have a faulty head gasket, cracked head or cracked block.

Still running hot after changing therm. 2000 lincoln ls

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.


Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.




You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!


Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost


A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.
