Question about 2004 Volvo XC90
The moonroof won't open and it's close to summer I really don't know wat to do ....?.. Any suggestions ..?
I presume it is electrical , have you checked the fuse if ok in the hand book will be a section saying how to open manually.do this very carefully as if roof not been opened for a while the control wires to and from motor can be corroded if you get roof slightly open spray something like WD 40 along the runners at each side leave to soak for a few mins and repeat process when roof can be wound open/shut smoothly try the motor again ,i know this is a bit labourious but beter than a blown motor or damaged mechanisn

Your problem could be as simple as a fuse Can't remember the fuse # or type mine had same problem when I bought the car try cleaning the area of the mechanism after you open

If this occured after trying to close the shade while the moonroof was opening, it is possible that the plastic tab that locks into the vent (and subsequently the rest of the moonroof) has been bent. I was having a similar problem where my vent would only go up on one side and stay closed on the other (and it would sometimes get stuck open). It would also prevent the rest of the moonroof from opening up. If this is the case, from what I can tell, there is no easy fix for this. Upon researching this problem, you are the only other person asking about it and zero fixes. For the time being, the vent can be closed by lifting up on one side to "unlock" the stuck tab and you should be able to put it down. After that, you should look up instructions to remove your moonroof glass to see if you can inspect the affected area to determine the cause. Here is a link that shows you how to remove the moonroof glass, but does not address the exact issue you describe.
