If you can duplicate the problem if the car is parked, I would want to know if the alternator is charging the battery when the battery light comes on and if there are any codes stored in the computer. Battery voltage dropping below 12 can cause all sorts of electrical problems, and some of the warning lights are connected to each other.
If the battery light comes on while your are driving than the alternator is not charging. The battery light comes on to tell you there is a problem with the charging system not the battery.
It is normal for the light to come on when you turn the key to the run position and then it should go out shortly after the engine starts.
When the light is on check the voltage at the battery if you have less than 13 volts the alternator is not charging.
The battery light is coming on due to either a defective Alternator voltage regulator Diode (built into the alternator) or to a wiring connector problem at the Alternator. When the charging system voltage drops below the battery voltage the battery warning light will come on, this is not a Battery problem as many think, it is a charging system issue as stated above, the main component of the charging system is the Alternator..
