When this situation occurs, turn the ignition ON. You should hear the fuel pump, pump up to pressurize the system. If not, then look for a poor connection on the fuel pump and fuel pump ground wires. If you turn the ignition ON and the instrument panel lights, etc do not come ON, this points to a loose connection in the ignition circuit - maybe a faulty ignition switch.

Pull out the spark plugs from the engine and see if spark comes from the distributor......if not replace distributor...costs around $280

89 camaro starts wont crank when it does wont idle and dies after 3000 rpm when you hold accelerator

Could be a problem with the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor if equipped. The pickup coil provides the crank signal for the injectors and ignition module.
Did you clear the code and then 53 came back ?
On most models code 53 means the computer or one of the components is getting over 13 volts.

Engine will crank but will not turn over

our experiensces of this when all is going well - was the car ran out of gas......or stop getting gas....ensure the gas matter & pour a little gas over the carberator & give it another try or so....when you are driving & it just goes dead slowly - fuel-connected circumstances are usually the 1st problem.....

got fuel, starter working, battery ok etc. - its a fuel matter more than likely.....

THE MOTOR CRANKS BUT WONT START EVEN WHEN I PUT GAS IN THE CARB (NOTHING) THE FUEL PUMP HUMMS AND SOUNDS FINE BUT IT WONT START EVEN WITH STARTER FLUID OR GAS IN THE CARB /IT JUST DIED ON ME WHILE...

Possible that the cylinder is flooded and so it will be best to remove the PLUGS and flush by cranking out the excess fuel. Now test the GAP on the plugs, reset to specification.
Also check the spark intensity. If low check the coils and HT wires.

As I was driving, my Plymouth Voyager completely lost power to the motor. Someone suggested to me that the pick up coil in the distributor was bad. I don't know.

Yes that is a possibility, along with about a hundred other possibilities, I wouldn't go buying any parts just yet you need to do some more diagnoses first. Also, there is not much info here for example, did it restart later, or did you have it towed from the side of the road, does it now crank but wont start, does it not even crank, does it start and die. Did it just run out of gas? what was the manner in which it died, suddenly or more like running out of gas?

If you know it has gas in it, and it cranks but wont start you could have a bad fuel pump, or it could be an ignition problem. You need to determine if it has no spark or no gas, then we have something to go on.

My Samurai wont start . It is getting gas to the carb and spark to the plugs. Was driving down the road and just died. Getting power everywhere. Starter turns but the motor just wont fire up.

I had a similar issue with my '86....driving home, made a left turn, and engine shut down. Coasted to a stop, and had a look under the hood. Cranked over fine, had gas, spark, but no go! After a tow home, and more in-depth investigating, turned out that the timing belt had broken! The older engine has no interference between valves and pistons, so installing a new belt got 'er going again for about $40. You can look down though the oil fill port or loosen the upper screws on the belt cover to confirm that the valves are/are not moving when the engine cranks.

99 mitsubishi mirage just died as i was driveing. now wont crank, sounds like timing is off. Any suggestions

If the car dies like you flipped a killswitch and wont even try to crank the motor I would definitely lean toward the ignition switch in the steering column is fried. Once it shorts out the car dies and wont crank.

Volvo 240 dl 1987 .. fuel issue....driving down the road, car

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. There is an access panel in the floor of the car to get to the pump.
