Replaced motor in it now it's making a grinding or screeching noise near the starter and flywheel


unfortunately it appears that the method of replacement was not followed as per the workshop manual and now the gear box has to be removed to correct the error

My winstar 2000 do no start


Try to find where your starter motor relay is & replace. You will probably need a workshop manual from your local auto store. Also check fusible links aren't burnt out, coming off the positive battery terminal, & also check the negative terminal has a clean earth to the chassis & engine block. Also check positive & negative connections to the starter are clean & tight.

ani_caut.gif WARNING: When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure protective caps are in place when maintenance is complete. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. ani_caut.gif WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the RH kick panel area. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.
    Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02.
  1. Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.

  1. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connections.

    1. Remove the stud bolts.
    1. Remove the two bolts.

Installation

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Starter Motor stv~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: WHEN SERVICING THE STARTER MOTOR OR PERFORMING OTHER UNDERHOOD WORK IN THE VICINITY OF THE STARTER MOTOR, BE AWARE THAT THE HEAVY GAUGE BATTERY INPUT LEAD AT THE STARTER SOLENOID IS "ELECTRICALLY HOT" AT ALL TIMES. A PROTECTIVE BOOT IS PROVIDED OVER THIS TERMINAL ON ALL VEHICLE LINES AND MUST BE REPLACED AFTER SERVICING. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE BEFORE SERVICING THE STARTER MOTOR.
Removal
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600). Refer to Section 03-12 for the removal and installation procedure.
  1. Slide back the protective boot and remove the nut securing the battery positive cable on the B-terminal of the starter solenoid (11390).
  1. Remove the battery positive cable from the B-terminal.
  1. Disconnect the S-terminal electrical connector.
  1. Remove the two starter motor bolts.
  1. Remove the starter motor (11002) from the vehicle.

ani_caut.gif WARNING: WHEN SERVICING STARTER MOTOR (11002) OR PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE IN THE AREA OF THE STARTER MOTOR , NOTE THE HEAVY GAUGE INPUT LEAD CONNECTED TO THE STARTER SOLENOID (11390) IS HOT AT ALL TIMES. MAKE SURE THE PROTECTIVE CAP IS INSTALLED OVER THE TERMINAL AND IS REPLACED AFTER SERVICE.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01.
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  1. Remove the starter solenoid safety cap.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: When disconnecting hardshell connector at S terminal, grasp the plastic shell and pull off. Do not pull on wire. Be careful to pull straight off to prevent damage to the connector and S terminal. If any part of the connection is damaged, replace the damaged components.
    Disconnect starter cable and push-on connector from starter solenoid.
  1. Remove upper bolt.
  1. Remove lower bolt and starter motor.
Installation
  1. Position starter motor to engine and install upper and lower bolts finger-tight.
  1. Tighten the upper mounting bolt to 20-27 Nm (15-20 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten the lower mounting bolt to 20-27 Nm (15-20 lb-ft).
  1. Connect starter solenoid connector. Be careful to push straight on and make sure connector locks in position with a notable click or detent.
  1. Install starter cable nut to starter solenoid B-terminal. Tighten to 9-14 Nm (80-123 lb-in).
  1. Replace the starter solenoid safety cap.
  1. Lower vehicle to floor.
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
