Question about 2000 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

2000 Kia Sportage, no power and wont rev past 4000 rpm, and the engine wont code, could this be the 4 wheel drive

This motor runs great at idle, the rear end hops off of a light, and it wont pull a hill, There is no code on the engine, i have replaced the timing belt the idler the tensioner, the tensioner spring, the woodruff key, the plugs, wires, pcv valve, alternator, starter, a few cracked vacuum lines, I cleaned all the sensors in the intake tube as well, replaced the fuel filter and the air filter, could this thing be stuck in 4 WD and there be some type of rev limiter?

could be cad converter. if stopped up it will rob engine of power.try to take it off first and see if it pulls better. if not then it would possibly b injectors.

SOURCE: sluggish performance on 2000 Kia Sportage

My theory is that it could be the injectors clogging. You could first try running a higher octane fuel, then if that doesn't seem to help try using the minimal amount of gas, and add injector cleaner to the tank. If all of this fails to work you can take your vehicle to the dealership where they can run a system analysis on it and help you pinpoint the problem. Hope this was helpful. Please rate my solution, thanks.

SOURCE: 4 wheel drive won't engage

Hello... My manual says that if your 4x4 doesn't engage could be because of a bent or broken rod, Broken chain in transfer case or a misaligned or broken transfer lever. not sure if this will help... also if you haven't already check your hubs. Are they locking in? Mine had the same problem it turned out to be the spring in the auto hub was broken.

Yes there is a sensor that controls Fuel/air ratio. It's called a MAF (mass air flow sensor)
But I think you should have the EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation)valve checked
and The TPS (throttle position sensor)maybe dirty.

Although may things can cause this issue,I would look at the items above first.

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage trouble code po171 once in

I have 2005 Kia Sportage with a check engine light. No other symptoms. I was told by Kia and Local mechanic that it is the fuel injectors. Error Code states that Fuel injectors are running lean. Put Master airflow- no change. Ran engine test with propane to run rich and trim never changed from 15. Car runs great. Kia dealer said that this is because we use Ethel in gas that it effects the alumium fuel rail delivery to the injectors and that it is necessary to change all of them .Kia Dealer wants $1,000.00 deposit to place order 6 fuel injectors from Kia. (Has anyone heard of that?)Also put fuel injector cleaner in tank.Does anyone have any suggestions before I spend over $1,000.00 to replace all 6 injectors or possible idea of what could be wrong?

If you're talking 4000 rpm, in neutral you'll cause engine damage! 2000 RPM is the max safe limit. Power loss is usually due to a restricted fuel filter. Does it smoke when running? (air filter), Try some Isopropyl alcohol deicer or fuel injector cleaner to ensure there's no water in the system. you haven't given enough info to diagnose the problem, i.e. drivability, history, and symtoms. I have a 2003 mustang cobra with the 4v dohc v8 supercharged. It idles perfectly. when i rev up the engine it sounds great, but when i take off and get into second and third gear it wont go past 4000...

Check the prongs on the #1 coil to see if it is crackd if it is left alone it will eventually turn to a multiple misfire, also take the coil off to make sure nothing is shorting out.

2000 kia sportage engine wont start when hot it cranks and when it bucks the starter it will start

sounds **** it jumped timing bad belt dont start it cause you run the risk of smashing a valve while it is out of time this is my thought
  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  3. Turn off all electrical loads.
  4. Connect a tachometer and verify idle speed is between 750-850 RPM.
  5. Connect a timing light to number one cylinder.
  6. Verify the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the timing mark on the timing belt cover are aligned at 4°BTDC.
