Transmission limp mode

99 GMC Sierra 5.3L Reduced engine power and transmission in "Limp Mode" Only have R,2,3 when cold. Once up to operating temp if I shut the truck off for about 30-40 seconds and start it back up the problem goes away till it sits overnight again. Trouble codes. P0137 P0157 and P0758. Occasionally the Gear indicator and odometer wont come on but with a hit to the dash they come back.

Put new fuel pump in starts great but it comes up reduced engine power

Reduced power (AKA "Limp" mode) is activated when a serious problem exists in the engine or the transmission, you need the system scanned to see what is causing the system to put your car in Limp Home Mode.

Had a flat tire, reduced engine power light came on

Either the tire pressure monitoring system detected excessively low or zero tire pressure and the computer has been programmed to set the vehicle into limp mode when that happens or a wheel speed sensor or another sensor detected an issue when the tire deflated and the computer sent the vehicle into limp mode.

One way or the other, once in limp mode there would have been fault codes generated and could have be read with a scan tool. They have probably cleared now.

Can transmission overheat cause reduced engine power

the ECM records problems with the engine and transmission and if those problems go outside set parameters then the ECM puts the car into reduced performance mode (limp mode)
Yes --if the transmission is over heating then the limp mode cuts in to protect the transmission from damage.

2008 GMC sierra code # p2135

Most of the time with the 5.3L in the GM vehicles it is a problem with the Throttle body for P1235 code. Usually you can pull the air intake off the throttle body, take a rag with some break cleaner and open the plate. Clean the inside of plate and throttle body. I will probably be Black Gunk build up that comes off. Just clean it really well. The sensor between the pedal and the throttle body have match signals. If one is off then it goes into reduced power mode. So this can be caused by this residue build up. It usually will fix your issue. It can come back but it will get you back on the road and help take you out of limp mode or reduced power mode.

What causes dash say reduce engine power

You need to have fault scan to identify what sensor triggered light. Reduced Engine power is telling you that it's in LIMP mode.
