Horn activates when using the outlet by the e brake on the center console

    Thanks Steve Trott, I'll give that a shot. Yet I don't think that will solve the Problem with the outlet setting the horn off.

SOURCE: Where is the horn relay on a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero

Although the Haynes repair manual did not have an electrical diagram for the horn circuit, I suddenly remembered I had an old CD-ROM based Auto Repair program from Popular Mechanics that has an extensive selection of diagrams. It did have a diagram for the horn circuit which showed that there was no horn relay in the circuit. So I started by taking apart the horn button on the steering wheel. The horn button is a switch consisting of two metal discs approximately two inches in diameter which are separated by a thin layer of foam which is supposed to keep the two discs separated. The metal discs have dimples that should be kept apart by the resiliency of the foam but when the foam is compacted, the dimples come together to complete the circuit. However, the foam had deteriorated to almost nothing and was allowing the two discs to be in constant contact. I solved the problem using picture hanging tape. This is a double-sided adhesive tape that is about 1/16 inch thick and comes in a roll and can be found probably anywhere hardware is sold. I cut the tape into small squares and stuck them to strategic points on the flat parts of one of the discs so that they would keep the discs apart with approximately the same resiliency as the foam. When external pressure is applied to the outer disc, the dimples come together just like before to complete the circuit and the horn works perfectly.
One thing I would like to point out is that when I initially took the horn apart, I started by removing the outer soft rubber cover from the horn pad to expose the horn button. It came off easily, but when it came time to put it back together, I could not get the cover back on. Then I discovered that there are three phillips head screws on the back side of the steering wheel that hold the horn button assembly in place. So to save time and frustration, I would recommend that step one be to remove those screws first.

Think your on the right track there the brake and the horn are not wired together unless they are going into an anti theft system.

Horn activates when auxilary plug in center consol is used. What is causing this?


There has to be a short in the electrical harness. Look under the dash for wires that have been crimped or crushed and you may want to remove the console to check for the same. If yoou find wires shorted to each other or to ground (metal), isolate with electrical tape.

Theft deterrent system


this is for acura but it cant hurt to try it...
Open hood ensure new battery is disconnected.
Open main fuse panel cover under hood and remove horn relay (so you don't have to listen to the horn).
Use the key to lock the drivers door.
Connect the positive battery terminal.
Connect the negative battery terminal (security system will now activate, hazards lights will flash and horn would be going off if the relay was not removed).
Use the key to unlock the drivers door.
Get in, close drivers door.
Use the key to start the engine.
Security system will deactivate.
Get out of vehicle, reinstall horn relay, replace fuse panel cover, close hood.

I have a 2006 Mazda 6. It got stuck in park and the brake lights and horn went out.


The problem is with the brake lights, there is a solenoid which prevents you taking the vehicle out of park unless you have your foot on the brake, the solenoid is wired into the brake light circuit. Bridge the two wires to the switch and see if the brake lights come on, that eliminates the switch, as the horn has stopped working as well the chances are it is a fuse. To test a fuse, remove it from the box and use a multi meter set on resistance and check for continuity, if they are all ok, you are looking for a wiring fault! You could try using a live fused fly lead from the battery direct to the brake light switch to put the brake lights on, and see if the vehicle will come out of park. Then it's just a matter of finding the wiring break? Try all connectors. Good Luck

1992 honda integra horn fuse blows after applying brakes


Honda makes the Integra but it uses the Acura name in the US.
According to the wiring diagram the brake lights and horn are on the same circuit. So I would check the bulbs and sockets for a short.
The brake light switch also involves the cruise control system.
