In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light normally illuminates when that signal gets broken, but not always. The security system controls the light, if the system is broken so can be the light. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the vehicle shuts down. This link explains it pretty well.

Car has no power

the battery must be flat , try a jump start or get a new battery , when you have got engine running get the alternator charge rate checked as could be the reason for flat battery, if charge rate is ok then check to see if anything had been left on whilst car was left

Hyundai Sante Fe Imobiliser problem?

can you hear the starter click at all take a hammer and tap on the starter if that works then you know the starter is bad, if you are comfortable enough take out the battery and the starter and take them to your local autozone have them tested just because a battery is fully charged doesn't mean that it doesn't have a dead cell or 2. They can test the starter also

Car starts and runs but once it warms up it shuts down , something is draining the battery , and theres a new battery and alternater in the car,the engine is a vtec 1.6 with aftermarket exhaust my son...

this sounds like it is a different problem. the battery is only used to start the car, doesn't really do anything once the car is turned on, just get charged by the alternator. the alternator is what powers the car, but does not behave like that when failing. the distributor on the other hand, which is common to go out on older hondas, will start fine, run, and once they reach a certain temperature and shut the engine off, which takes hours for it to cool properly and start once again.

this one, which they sell at autozone, costs 200, 220 with tax right here in california, but should be some what similar in other places as well.

hope this helps. goodluck. and if you need any help in changin the distributor, let me know, ill post instructions

2001 ranger wont start

did you have the battery tested by autozone to make sure it is charged properly? YOu will still get spark with a low battery. Also, have the alternator checked to make sure it is putting out enough volts. IF you can jump start it it is most likely the battery or alternator.

When I turn the key in my Lexus ES 300 the dashboard lights up, but it won't start. For the past month, I would turn the key and the dash would light up and do nothing, but if I tried turning the key...

Hey, Take your care to an good battery shop, have then check the alternator output.. sound like there is an issue of charging ... or there is a major drain on the battery.. either way, they will be able to help you.

Can't figure out problem with civic!!

ok, the solution for it is very simple.
get it to autozone and ask them to do an alternator test to see if the alternator is producing energy if you are the kind of person that doesn't know anything about cars.
if you are a semi-skilled person then get a voltimeter and test the battery with the car on. and the positive lead with positive and negative with negative, it should read about 14 or more.
if you go to autozone or o'reilly then ask to see the voltage on their little tester. and if you see a voltage of around 14 then you can be sure that the problem is not your alternator.
thank you
if your alternator test fine then the next step would be to check your battery. turn the headlights on with car off, then voltage should not go below 10 volts when you plug the voltimeter.
